Sunbathing – An ancient concept

We take a bath every day, to keep our body cool and composed. We simply turn on the shower and place ourselves under it and that is all. Similarly, sunbathing is about exposing one’s body directly to the sun; the more one reveals oneself, the more effective it is.

People of the early civilizations found out that the rays of the sun are a healing source. We are not sure how, but they knew that if solar energy is utilized properly, it could have a tremendous effect on our body and mind.

Skin Care – One can get rid of skin diseases like rashes by sun exposure. Exposing one’s body to the sun also brings a glow to the skin.

Blood Circulation – Being under sunlight over a considerable period of time, helps improve the blood circulation in our body.

Hormone secretion- Sunbathing helps in secretion of hormones. Being in the sun helps to stimulate the pineal gland of the brain which controls our mood.

Source of Vitamin D – Sunlight is one of the best sources of Vitamin D. One can absorb Vitamin D by simply exposing one’s skin to the sun rays.

Though exposure to sunlight gives us the above mentioned benefits, we need to exercise caution while doing so, as overdoing it can have adverse side effects.

It is important to choose the right time of day to sunbathe. Exposing oneself to the sun when it is right above the head, glowing with its full intensity should always be avoided. It is advisable to avoid sunbathing between 11.00 AM and 3.00 PM.
