Stargate SG-1

Stargate SG-1 is a science fiction TV-series and a part of the Stargate universe (not to be confused with the series “Stargate Universe”). It picks up where the original movie, “Stargate” from 1994, ended.

The show tells the story of SG-1, the top team in the SG program, which consists of many such teams; their mission is to explore the galaxy, and to defend Earth against alien threats such as The Goa'uld, The Replicators, and later The Ori. In the Stargate universe, there is a network of stargates, long ago constructed by “The Ancients,” that makes it possible to perform near instantaneous travel between planets.

The story begins in 1928, when a stargate is discovered in Giza, Egypt. It is relocated by the US Government to a secret military bunker within Cheyenne Mountain, in Colorado. Col. Jack O'Neill, Samantha Carter, Teal'c and Daniel Jackson make up the original SG-1 team, the first to go on regular expeditions through the stargate. Later in the series Cameron Mitchell and Vala Mal Doran also become members of the team. Jonas Quinn replaced Daniel Jackson, but only during Season 6 and the beginning of Season 7. Stargate Command's top mission is to locate and understand new alien technologies, and forge new alliances in Earth's defense. Unfortunately, both SG-1 and Earth also make enemies in the process. In the beginning Apophis was Earth's biggest enemy, but the stargate universe works the way that when someone bad dies they get replaced by someone even worse. Apophis gets replaced by Anubis, a enemy with a knowledge about the universe so vast that he might prove impossible to defeat. In the end of the series SG-1 faces the biggest enemy they will ever face, The Ori. The Ori are a highly developed race that live on another plane of existence, and feed on the power of its worshippers.

As soon as the 200th episode of Stargate SG-1 ran on the SciFi-Channel (Now SyFy), it was announced that Season 10 of Stargate SG-1 would be the last one.
