The puzzle was thought to be simply a prankster but after clues required going to various real locations such as Paris, Moscow, and Chino. It was at these points the solvers realized that they where working on a puzzle devised by possibly a government, secret society, or think tank focused on finding some of the smartest people on the planet. With different Tor links and encryption methods many people think 3301 is a secret society with skilled people in cyber knowledge. No one knows who 3301 is or what their goal is but one thing is certain, everyone that supposedly solved the puzzles have not leaked any information about 3301. There have been warnings of how 3301 is a evil group, but the warnings are not proven to be factual seeing as the group 3301 is so secretive.
