DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT THE DEVTOME PROJECT AND KEEP THE SITE UP/ALIVE PLEASE DONATE (EVEN IF ITS A SATOSHI) TO OUR DEVCOIN 1M4PCuMXvpWX6LHPkBEf3LJ2z1boZv4EQa OR OUR BTC WALLET 16eqEcqfw4zHUh2znvMcmRzGVwCn7CJLxR TO ALLOW US TO AFFORD THE HOSTING.

THE DEVCOIN AND DEVTOME PROJECTS ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO ITS FURTHER SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER 5 OR MORE YEARS!

Shyvana jungle guide

/!\ Due to the latest patch this article is now outdated and needs a rework /!\

This is a guide for a character in League of Legends.

Shyvana the Half-Dragon.

Shyvana can be played as a top or as a jungler. This guide will cover the gameplay jungle.

PROS/CONS

Pros

  • Top sustain and cleaning speed.
  • No mana.

Cons

  • No hard CC.
  • Not really good ganks.

Summoner spells

  • Smite: This skill is designed for junglers.
  • Exhaust: Shyvana's ganks are poor, Exhaust is almost a mandatory here. Otherwise your enemies will just run away from you even if the gank is well timed.
  • Flash: I take flash less often with Shyvana. I pick it if I'm planing to build something like a Blade of The Ruined king or a Frozen Mallet during the game. You also need it less because you will be built as a tanky jungler who can run away easily from almost everything, thanks to your W.

Skills

  • Dragonborn (passive): Shyvana gains bonus armor and magic resistance as follows: (5/10/15/20), at levels (1/6/11/16). Shyvana gains twice the bonus in dragon form.

Free armor from start for a good sustain early then more resistance for the ganks. You will see that you have some advantages to engage with the dragon form in teamfights.

  • Twin Bite (Q): Shyvana will strike twice on her next auto attack dealing physical damages on her second attack as follows: (80/85/90/95/100% AD). Auto attacks decrease its cooldown by 0.5 seconds per instance.

Dragon Form: Shyvana now deal AOE physical damages in a cone in front of her. Fury will be applied twice for every target that Twin bite hits in this form.
Cooldown: (10/9/8/7/6).

This skill resets the auto attack cooldown. It means that you can hit 3 times within a really short time lapse. This skill also applies on-hit effects and damages structures aswell. The first instance can be a critical strike but it's not the case for the second one based on percentage AD. On her dragon form Shyvana will cast it as a breath of fire in front of her. As the fury will apply twice for every target it will extend you dragon form so try to hit as many targets as you can here.

  • Burnout (W): Shyvana Deals AOE magic damages around her from 3 seconds up to 7 seconds as follows: (20/35/65/80 +20% bonus AD per second). While burnout is active each auto attack will extend its duration by 1 second per hit up to a 7 seconds total. Shyvana also gains bonus movement speed upon casting as follows: (30/35/40/45/50% bonus MS). This bonus is decaying by 15% of its initial value per second.

Dragon Form: Shyvana now leaves a path of flames behind her for 5 seconds. It will deal the same damage as it is in human form.
Cooldown: 12.

Your skill to clean the jungle faster. As it extends its duration based on your auto attacks cast it right before an auto attack. Then cast Q right after the AA. The way to level this one is to always scal with the actual difficulty of lesser monsters. You want to clean them with one cast of this skill. In the dragon form it's interesting only if someone is chasing you or if you tried to fly over the enemy team while casting R.

  • Flame Breath (E): Shyvana throws a fireball at targeted location dealing AOE magic damages on its path as follows: (60/100/140/180/220 +60% AP). It marks the enemies for 5 seconds. Marked enemies will suffer bonus magic damages from auto attacks as follows: (2% of their max HP). It's capped to 100 damages versus monsters.

Dragon Form: Shyvana now deals AOE magic damages in a cone in front of her.
Range: 925 Cooldown: (12/11/10/9/8).

The skill is based on AP and you will not develop AP with Shyvana. Note that the mark is not only for shyvana's auto attacks but for everyone. You should cast it right after your engage in teamfight (R). You will try to hit as many enemies as you can as it will be an AOE cone once you transformed into a dragon. Now your combination in the jungle will be: W+E+AA+Q. I usually max this one last.

  • Dragon's Descent (R) (Ultimate): Passive: Shyvana generates fury every 1.5 seconds in human form as follows: (1/2/3 per 1.5 seconds). She gains 2 fury for every auto attack even against structures while in dragon form. Active: Shyvana transforms into a dragon and leap to target location dealing magic damage to enemies in her path as follows: (175/300/425 +70% AP). Shyvana also knock them back this way. Shyvana can transform once she has 100 fury. Once in Dragon Form her fury is decaying by 5 points every seconds. Once she reach 0 fury she transforms back into human form.
Range 1000. Cost 5 Fury per second.

Your ultimate will be your sole engage and it's not the best in the game. The range is decent but it's a dash. You will have to position yourself well to take less damages until your mates back you up in the teamfight. You gain bonus abilities from all your skills. I applies twice the bonus on your passive and an AOE component on Q,W and E. Q will also help you to maintain your Dragon form Longer (alongside auto attacks). While casting this skill you are immune to crowd controls whereas most of dashes can be interrupted. Dragon's Descent can be casted to fly over minor obstacles; for instance in an attempt to steal Nashor/Drake.

Skill sequence

01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18
Q x x x x x
W x x x x x
E x x x x x
R x x x

I start with W but I will maximize it second. As I said you have to scale your ranks in W with the health of the lesser neutrals. So it will also depend on your stuff. The more Ad you build the less points you need into W early. Keep in mind that you will have no real gap closer, only the enhanced movespeed from W (R is more your engage not a dash you can barely spam).

Masteries

Shyvana will have a fast clear time early in the game even without big guns as offensive item. You can build her as an off-tank as you will only gain few seconds on your jungle route. Any way you can lock 5 camps and farm them forever if you are not interrupted. At some point more AD will be less rewarding.

  • As offensive masteries you reach the flat AD bonus because Q and W scale on bonus AD. A point in Butcher will help you to take the main monsters a bit faster. Feast is unnecessary.
  • On defensives masteries you take the jungle kit: Tough Skin + Bladed Armor + Hardiness. Legendary Guardian will help you later on, during teamfights.

Runes

Rune page explanation:

  • X9 Hybrid penetration penetration (marks): As you can see even if W scale on bonus AD, the damage output is magical. That's 3 skills dealing magic damages. Your overall damage output will be something like 70/30 65/35 AD/AP. That's the reason why I take hybrid penetration here. Alternative choices: Attack Speed marks (AS will help less while teamfighting), Armor penetration Marks and Flat Ad marks.
  • x9 Flat armor (seals): Almost the default setup on every jungler.
  • X9 Magic resistance per level (glyphs): As you will engage often with R this will help you to soak more damages.
  • X3 flat movement speed (quintessences): You can tweak it a bit too. but other options like more AS and more Pen are less viable.

Build

The build will depend on what you try to accomplish. Shyvana will be a “power jungler” in the S4 competing with the gankers on a different model. I will build her to keep a fast cleaning time and to develop her tanking ability.
You start with a Hunter's Machete 5 HP Pots + the free totem to see if someone is counter jungling. You will swap for an Optical lense later on. On your first trip back at 725 gold you upgrade your Machete to the Stone and you buy the boots of speed. On your second trip back around 2000 gold you complete the Spirit of the Ancient Golem and the Ninja Tabi. Then you will start you first offensive item. If the team is AP heavy you can look for a Wits end Right now otherwise a Ravenous Hydra will be your best friend. You can build even more tanky with a Locket of the Iron Solari but I really like the Hydra as it will enhance your cleaning time close to the optimal. You can also build a Blade of the Ruined king instead of the Hydra if you gank often as it will provide you a little CC. Your next item will be a Randuin's Omen/Spirit visage and you will be set. Q applies its on-hit effect component even while in Dragon Form. If you have some difficulties to keep up with your enemy you can buy a Frozen Mallet.

Jungle Route

You can start either with red or blue. Then you will do the wraiths/wolves and the other major camps at level 2 with your smite up. With Shyvana you will not be looking for ganks early you will have to lock more and more camps to power farm. You still have to look at the whole map to prevent the other jungler from easy ganks (Many times your mates are only watching at their location). Use smart pings to save lives. After level 3 you usually do 2 more camps then you back for your first buy. Then you start over without the major camps. They are respawning every 5 minutes. If your plan is not to gank you will have to be on the edge to counter gank. That's how you will pick up some kills easily; you will win most 2v2 because of your higher level compared to the enemy's jungler.

General guidelines

There is other viable alternative builds with Shyvana. This one isn't made around AS this much but you can give it a try. I don't build her into AS because you don't really need it for your W. You can already set a 7 seconds W with Q so more AS is kinda wasting. More AS will still provide you more Q and it will help to maintain your Dragon form longer. In general I have no problem with the dragon form's duration in teamfights. They are over before I transform back most of the time. Position yourself well to cast Q whatever. If you buy more AS you will shine less in teamfight than when you enhance your AD. In the jungle that's easy to cycle your DPS and scale it with the AS but it's not the same in teamfights. If you reach 1.2 AS or more you will maybe not be able to strike 1.2 times every second because enemies are competent.
