DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT THE DEVTOME PROJECT AND KEEP THE SITE UP/ALIVE PLEASE DONATE (EVEN IF ITS A SATOSHI) TO OUR DEVCOIN 1M4PCuMXvpWX6LHPkBEf3LJ2z1boZv4EQa OR OUR BTC WALLET 16eqEcqfw4zHUh2znvMcmRzGVwCn7CJLxR TO ALLOW US TO AFFORD THE HOSTING.

THE DEVCOIN AND DEVTOME PROJECTS ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO ITS FURTHER SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER 5 OR MORE YEARS!

Should You Suppress Rift's Bonus Exp?

As of the latest update to RIFT, players with the Patron status can now halt their bonus experience to allow for slower leveling. Before you do this, however, you may want to consider the effects.

The latest update, Rift 2.7 Hotfix #15, added a new ability for Patron players: Experience Bonus Suppression. The idea behind this new ability is pretty simple: the Patron status gives an extra 40% bonus experience (passively) to those that have subscriptions. As an effect, players level up faster, which has been something players have complained about for a while (and even led to, at one point, the ability to lock experience in the past, though this was removed later on – likely due to “twinks” in Warfronts).

The problem now, however, is that this skill really isn't needed anymore, unless you want a really clean leveling experience. The reason for this is that you can always just continue on your normal path and use the mentoring system to lower your level. Because of this, you can be level 60 and still do lower level content as if you were a lower level. There is a slight problem with this, however, which is that your higher level skills and passives will stay in effect when mentored down. To combat this, you can simply use the same number of soul points as you would at that level. For example, if you mentored down to 20 you would have 26 soul points. So just allocate that many and you are pretty much equal to where you would be as a legitimate level 20.

A huge reason for not doing the experience bonus suppression is that you will work your way up to level 60 faster, which also means you will get going with your Planar Attunement a lot faster (which kicks in at 50). Even while mentored down, you will be earning experience towards this. And while we could argue that leveling up slower is great for taking the game slower, the Planar Attunement is enough of a grind that getting in on it early is a good idea if you want to gain some of the skills faster.

What About Warfronts?

There is one situation where the lack of bonus experience is good, which is if you're playing in Warfronts and want to maximize your time in a specific bracket. While all PvE content can be mentored down for, Warfronts can not. As a result, once you hit 20 you are out of the 10-19 bracket. For players that want to “twink” for a while, this isn't a good thing and the slow-down helps cut it back a bit. Of course, once you hit the next bracket up you will want to disable the suppression again.
