DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT THE DEVTOME PROJECT AND KEEP THE SITE UP/ALIVE PLEASE DONATE (EVEN IF ITS A SATOSHI) TO OUR DEVCOIN 1M4PCuMXvpWX6LHPkBEf3LJ2z1boZv4EQa OR OUR BTC WALLET 16eqEcqfw4zHUh2znvMcmRzGVwCn7CJLxR TO ALLOW US TO AFFORD THE HOSTING.

My Rift Realm of the Fae Dungeon Review

Introduction

This is the first dungeon that is available to players in the game, and it opens up at level fifteen (although the mobs in the dungeon are level seventeen and so if you are playing as a healer or a tank it is recommended to wait until that high, just to be safe). It is located in the Fae area of Silverwood, the Guardian starting zone, and is entered by jumping down in to a wishing well. Here, you end up in what is called The Realm of the Fae (fae is short for “faerie,” in case you are wondering).

Upon entering the dungeon, the first thing you will likely notice is how bright and vibrant it is. It is a lot like the area surrounding the portal to get in, and it looks great. The area is green and flourishing, and the path is walled in by bushes.

The mobs bring a pretty positive feel to the dungeon as well; you are fighting against faeries and trees for most of the dungeon, although there are some frog like animals and a few other things along the way as well. Everything in the dungeon, though, looks really nice.

As you explore you will get to see a lot of scenery, but nothing is even close to what happens after you have fought the third boss here (named Atrophinius). You end up in an area that is covered in snow, looking a lot like something from The Chronicles of Narnia or something. Depending on how high your graphics are set, you may or may not be able to easily see through the snow, which can make this part of the map pretty difficult due to blindness. If you happen to be hit by this, lower your graphics settings to the lowest possible temporarily and then you can boost them back up when you get to the final boss (as this will also take you out of the snowy area).

The Fights

There are four different bosses in this dungeon, although they do not really come in the same order as their difficulty. The problem is between the first two bosses, in which the second is actually easier to take down than the first. This is a little awkward when you first get going, just because it does not appear as if it was set up right, but the last two bosses are fine.

From the perspective of a newbie that is jumping in to the dungeon at the lowest level possible, Realm of the Fae can be a bit challenging. From the get go you are already taking on groups of enemies, rather than working your way up to that. Ideally what should be experienced at the beginning is a couple of solo mobs, followed by a few sets of two, and then go in to the groups. The mobs found within the dungeon are much harder than those you find outside of it (as dungeon mobs are elite and those outside usually are not), which is where this issue comes in to play. It is quite easy to die the first time while thinking that the mobs are going to be a lot like you are used to, rushing in and hoping that you can just take on a lot of them at once.

Past these points, I think the fights are all pretty well done, although there is an area I am not quite sure why it is there. As you are exploring, past the second boss (Luggodhan) there is an area with a lot of yellow named mobs. None of these have to be killed for any quests or to complete the dungeon, and they are all passive so you can run right beside them without pulling any threat. Along with this, they are all normal mobs, which is a little weird coming from a dungeon where everything else in it is elite. I can not figure out why they are in the dungeon, or what their purpose is, but I assume there has to be some reason for them.

The Length

The dungeon is actually pretty quick to get finished, taking around twenty minutes or so with a decent group. The mobs are not too tough overall and the bosses themselves are pretty quick, aside from the last two. This is because Atrophinius makes you sit around while a small cut scene goes through before you can attack him, and the final boss comes in multiple stages you have to wait around for. Other than these two situations, though, it is pretty much a straight run through everything.

The Loot

It is hard to really judge the loot from Realm of the Fae because it is such a low level dungeon. Even if you got an awesome drop here, you would be out leveling it within an hour or two, so it would not really matter one way or the other. This actually cuts down on the dungeon's replay value as well, since there is no real reason to do the dungeon more than one time unless you just enjoy it and want to pass up time by running it over and over. Past this, there is no true value in it. But this is all to be expected, being that it is a low level dungeon and you are still at the fast leveling point of the game. This changes later on!

Conclusion

I love Realm of the Fae. It gives a nice feeling when you enter, it feels really positive and it is a great learning dungeon. Along with this, you can get a laugh when you deal with Atrophinius and his cut scene, so that is always a good thing. The only real change I would make to the dungeon would be to alter the spawn order of the bosses a bit and set up a more newbie friendly entrance in regards to the first few mobs (so people can get the hang of fighting elites instead of just normal mobs, rather than having to rush in head first). The boss spawns will likely not get changed due to issues it would cause with the map as a whole, but hopefully the second idea will get implemented in some way or another!

It would also be a welcome change if the level of gear that drops here was boosted to around twenty or so, because then you would get a lot more usage out of it. I can see this being a problem because people would start farming their level twenty gear at fifteen, but when it really comes down to it, that will be out leveled before long as well, so it should not hurt anything too bad.
