DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT THE DEVTOME PROJECT AND KEEP THE SITE UP/ALIVE PLEASE DONATE (EVEN IF ITS A SATOSHI) TO OUR DEVCOIN 1M4PCuMXvpWX6LHPkBEf3LJ2z1boZv4EQa OR OUR BTC WALLET 16eqEcqfw4zHUh2znvMcmRzGVwCn7CJLxR TO ALLOW US TO AFFORD THE HOSTING.

THE DEVCOIN AND DEVTOME PROJECTS ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO ITS FURTHER SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER 5 OR MORE YEARS!

Planar Attunement, as seen in our review, is a method of alternate advancement within Rift. It is a way of allowing players to grow their character, even while at the maximum level. Through this guide, we will look at the system, choosing the right point placement, and how it all comes together!

The first step here is to understand what Planar Attunement is and what it isn't. It is a method of gaining some added benefit to gaining extra experience while doing things you already do. It isn't a method of becoming super-powerful, and at the end of the day is not going to make or break your character, despite how it may seem.

Earning Planar Attunement Points

Planar Attunement points are gained doing the things you already do; if it gains experience, it gains Planar Attunement experience as well. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Raiding
  • Dungeons
  • Questing
  • Grinding
  • Zone Events
  • PvP

Because of how the experience is earned, it starts to add up quick. As for the points themselves, 100 are given for every “level” you gain (500,000 experience).

Using Planar Attunement Points

To use your points, simply click on a honeycomb that you can afford. Most skills go up to three or four tiers, with each one being more expensive than the previous, so the ones you can afford will vary depending on the skills you've already learned. Note: the skill tiers in each honeycomb do not stack; if you get +1 Intelligence, for example, and upgrade again it will only add 1, for a total of +2 Intelligence.

As for opening up new honeycombs, this is done by learning one skill in another that touches it. You do not have to fill a honeycomb to unlock the attached ones.

Obtaining skills in future tiers does require learning every possible upgrade in the previous tier with that faction. For example, to get to Fire tier 2 you must first fill up all of Fire tier 1. Doing this will not unlock the other factions, so if you wish to get to tier 2 on all you need to fill up the tier 1's on all six factions.

Choosing the Best Faction

At this point in time there is no way to reset your Planar Attunement points, so choosing the right faction in the beginning helps a lot. While you can learn every available skill, that will take a lot of grinding. As such, making the most efficient of your already-available points goes a long way.

The best way to evaluate which path you wish to choose is to start with the tier 2 skills that will become available. Though it isn't available when you first start, it will help immensely in speeding up your progression through the skills you need. The following are what you need to take into consideration when looking at the available skills:

  • Mages
    • Weapon type and Intelligence
  • Clerics
    • Weapon type and Wisdom (for tanks, look for Endurance)
  • Rogues
    • Weapon type and Dexterity (for tanks, look for Endurance)
  • Warriors
    • Weapon type and Strength (for tanks, look for Endurance)

Which tree you go with first will ultimately be up to you, as each player is different. For example, if you are able to afford the weapon stones, you won't get as much benefit from the Fire tree as someone who can't (there's a skill in there that gives similar benefits, though watered down). Along with this, if you run multiple roles with different play-styles it will also impact your decision.

Conclusion

I hope this Planar Attunement guide has helped you better understand the system and how it works.
