DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT THE DEVTOME PROJECT AND KEEP THE SITE UP/ALIVE PLEASE DONATE (EVEN IF ITS A SATOSHI) TO OUR DEVCOIN 1M4PCuMXvpWX6LHPkBEf3LJ2z1boZv4EQa OR OUR BTC WALLET 16eqEcqfw4zHUh2znvMcmRzGVwCn7CJLxR TO ALLOW US TO AFFORD THE HOSTING.

THE DEVCOIN AND DEVTOME PROJECTS ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO ITS FURTHER SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER 5 OR MORE YEARS!

An issue some players have is that the leveling speed in Rift is just too fast. It is more than possible to get to end-game in a matter of a week or less. But what you might not know is that this is how the system was designed.

The most common argument against leveling up too quickly is that you miss out on a lot of the game's content. While this is true, Scott Hartsman, in an interview with Dead Pixel in February of this year, stated the following:

  • we are not gauging the life of the game based on how long it takes you to get to max level. Games that do that tend to… honestly I don't really care. As long as people aren't getting it in a day, that's fine, because we have been putting such a focus on how much content and how many things there are to do after you get to max level.

So really this is all intended as part of the game. Rift's focus is more on end-game content and the rest (level 1-49) is more like an extended tutorial. Keeping this in mind is important as it helps explain why each major patch has focused more on end-game than the prior levels: that's how it was meant to be in the beginning.

But really, we generally spend more time at end-game than prior in other games anyways, so this is a great step. It also allows players to make alts and get them caught up fairly quick, which is another major benefit to “altaholics.” Along with this, it helps out the more casual players by allowing them to (within a reasonable amount of time) get to end-game to play with their friends as well. At the same time, however, it also shortens the lifespan of the game for a lot of players. Without a real time-sink of getting to end-game, it's fairly easy to blast through the content. And since raiding can only be done once a week, that causes a lot of raiders to be forced to find something else to suck up their time.

As it is, consider levels 1-49 as being more about the story than the game play, and level 50 as being where the real game starts. So while the leveling speed in Rift is quick, it's that way so you can actually get to the real meat of the game. This isn't to say that there won't be more lower-level content in the future, but as it is, it's definitely not the focus.
