DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT THE DEVTOME PROJECT AND KEEP THE SITE UP/ALIVE PLEASE DONATE (EVEN IF ITS A SATOSHI) TO OUR DEVCOIN 1M4PCuMXvpWX6LHPkBEf3LJ2z1boZv4EQa OR OUR BTC WALLET 16eqEcqfw4zHUh2znvMcmRzGVwCn7CJLxR TO ALLOW US TO AFFORD THE HOSTING.

THE DEVCOIN AND DEVTOME PROJECTS ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO ITS FURTHER SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER 5 OR MORE YEARS!

Glyph Launcher Install Locations

With Rift's new launcher, called Glyph, some confusion has come about as to how to “install” Rift so you can continue playing if you have removed the game from its default location. Luckily, this is pretty easy to do, though it can be a bit confusing when looking at the application. Let's take a look at how it's done!

From the main screen, you will want to right-click on the game's icon and choose “Settings.” Within, you will see a screen like this:

You will likely notice right off the bat that you can choose locations for both Live and PTS versions of the game. If you are playing Rift normally, you will want to stick with the Live one. Simply choose to “browse” and find the location of your game's main Rift folder. For example, if it is in /users/me/games/Rift/, and has a lot of folders underneath, you want to stop at the end of Rift.

Once you have set the location to where your game is already located or to where you want it to be (if you are installing the game fresh), hit “Install.” You do this even if the game is already installed. As of today's patch (07/02/14) it will be around a 70 MB update that is done to the game, as it's simply a hotfix that was added. This can be confusing, though, as the client claims it has to do the download for installation, when really it's just going to update the game like it normally would.

It is also worth noting that you do not need to restart the client for changes to take effect. When I altered the location for Defiance, for example, it went from claiming it had a 11 GB or so download to less than 500 MB. This updated instantly after I changed the location of the game, with no interference needed. After doing the small update, the game launched like normal.

This new client makes accessing Trion's games much faster and easier, and keeps everything much more organized for those of us that use custom locations for most of our applications. If there are any questions or problems, please leave a comment below and I'll see what I can do to help!
