DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT THE DEVTOME PROJECT AND KEEP THE SITE UP/ALIVE PLEASE DONATE (EVEN IF ITS A SATOSHI) TO OUR DEVCOIN 1M4PCuMXvpWX6LHPkBEf3LJ2z1boZv4EQa OR OUR BTC WALLET 16eqEcqfw4zHUh2znvMcmRzGVwCn7CJLxR TO ALLOW US TO AFFORD THE HOSTING.

THE DEVCOIN AND DEVTOME PROJECTS ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO ITS FURTHER SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER 5 OR MORE YEARS!

Now that Rift 1.8 has officially been released, along with it the new Instant Adventures on Ember Isle have also come out. Contrary to information prior to release, this is one system that has gotten a somewhat large makeover between the test server and going live.

To start off, let's look at why players choose to take part in the Instant Adventures as a whole. These are the main reasons for doing so:

  • Experience (leveling and Planar Attunement)
  • Notoriety with the different rift factions
  • Gold (from kills and drops)
  • Inscribed Sourcestones
  • Eternal Puresources for items to break down
  • Consumables

The biggest things on here are leveling (for those prior to level 50) and the Inscribed Sourcestones. And this is where the issues start to come in to play.

First of all, when the Instant Adventures were first being tested, they were giving the Inscribed Sourcestones on every round (or very near it) of the different quests. Being that the Ember Isle ones are tougher and take a bit longer (usually), this made a lot of sense. After-all, the quests are for those who are higher level. But once it came out on the live servers, this dropped to about the same rate as IA's for Stillmoor and Shimmersand.

The second big thing is that, being that Ember Isle is primarily for decently geared level 50's, those who are looking to just level up are pretty much left out. Again, this presses players to go to Shimmersand and Stillmoor instead.

As a result, the overall view of most players at this point is that Ember Isle Instant Adventures are good if you are working on Planar Attunement experience, however Stillmoor and Shimmersand are the much better choice for just about anything else. When it comes to the experience for Planar Attunement, the reason Ember Isle is better is because the mobs from SS and SM are often in the 45+ range, putting them at a level penalty for those who are already level 50 (note that there are some quests available in Shimmersand and Stillmoor that are 50 still, however it's kind of hit-and-miss). Due to this, the experience is much lower for level 50 players.

If you want to go for drops, what you're going for will make a huge impact on which zone choice is the best. For example, all three are pretty good for things like Eternal Puresources and the different rift consumables, and are about equal for the Inscribed Sourcestones. The reason SM and SS end up being the better choice is because they are significantly easier than Ember Isle, so more or less by going to them you are getting a lot more reward for less work. Furthermore, they are a lot more manageable at low population periods, when doing the Ember Isle ones may get to be a bit tedious for small groups or solo players.

If onslaughts are your cup of tea, you may enjoy Ember Isle just because they have some wardstone defense type missions that deal with the sourcewells. While these aren't quite the same thing, they still give the added benefit of being part of the IA system and can therefore also reward you with an Inscribed Sourcestone.

In terms of the rewards you will run across while doing these instant adventures, they are much like in the other zones: you can get things like Inscribed Sourcestones, various artifacts, rift consumables, planarite, puresources and more. If you're on the prowl for planarite, especially, running these new Instant Adventures is especially useful! Along with this, for those who need the Eternal Puresources for items to break down, you can easily get a lot of them in a short period of time while running these quests. And for added benefits, pick up the daily quest in Sanctum or Meridian and you can earn bonus experience and Inscribed Sourcestones! The quest is called Instant Adventure and is available from the same NPC's as the other daily/weekly quests for raids, rifts, etc.

It is also worth mentioning that sometimes you will just want a change of venue. If you run a lot of instant adventures, you will likely need to move on to a new area just to get a breath of fresh air. Or maybe you want to explore the island but you want to get as many benefits as possible while doing it. Instant adventures are awesome for this because they will teleport you around from place to place as you complete them, making it a lot easier to explore the whole island and unlock all of the portals. Along with this, it can be a good way to see where different mob types are, as well as pick up all of the random quests that are everywhere, with the help of others there with you to fend off extra mobs that come after you. Traveling alone on Ember Island, while at a lower level, is extremely dangerous. The mobs are packed pretty tightly together and most of them have more health than what you may be used to. It is very easy to become overwhelmed, and nothing is more annoying than constantly dying.

Doing the instant adventures can also help you out if you want to do all of the wardstone defending quests. These are daily quests that take a little bit of time since you have to wait until enemy floods come in to attack the wardstones. When working on instant adventures, you will run across these pretty often (I think every one of the quest lines ends with one), so you can get these knocked out with the help of the others working on the same thing.
