DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT THE DEVTOME PROJECT AND KEEP THE SITE UP/ALIVE PLEASE DONATE (EVEN IF ITS A SATOSHI) TO OUR DEVCOIN 1M4PCuMXvpWX6LHPkBEf3LJ2z1boZv4EQa OR OUR BTC WALLET 16eqEcqfw4zHUh2znvMcmRzGVwCn7CJLxR TO ALLOW US TO AFFORD THE HOSTING.

THE DEVCOIN AND DEVTOME PROJECTS ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO ITS FURTHER SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER 5 OR MORE YEARS!

One of the biggest PvP features to Rift is the addition of a Conquest system. This is a system that helps try to enhance PvP by allowing a mass-PvP style battle. But how well does it do?

Mass PvP

What I would consider as the biggest selling point to me when it comes to Conquest is the mass-PvP style of it. The system is set up in a Team vs. Team vs. Team fashion, but also has a lot more than just one raid per team. It's hard to tell exactly how many players are able to join a match, however it does appear that there is a significant number. Furthermore, it seems as if there is only one match at any given time, with a cooldown period in between each. This helps get everyone going at the same time, rather than have multiple empty games. At the same time, there is also a down side, which is that during the peak points of the day it is possible for the Conquest to fill up. This means being stuck in a queue, although you can work on other things (like quests, farming, etc.) while waiting for it. There is no guarantee that the queue will open, though, so if you want to join the Conquest it is important to keep up on top of when it will be starting, and try to be one of the first people in.

FPS, Lag and Disappearing Players

While having a lot of players in the match at once is a positive, it is also a negative for many people. There have been many complaints about lag, low FPS rates and even disappearing players. While I haven't experienced any of these myself (other than slightly lowered FPS when there is a massive battle taking place), I can understand the frustration. And on the note of FPS issues, if you are experiencing them it's recommended that you turn your game onto the lowest settings (even if it's just temporary while in the Conquest).

Crafting and Farming

The crafting system that takes place in Conquest is quite interesting, allowing you to make buffs, turrets and other things using sourcestones picked up out on the field. Some of the items may seem quite expensive, running 200 or so stones, but each pick-up can reward quite a few (I had a couple 10's). Furthermore, if players are dropping them off at the spawn point, via the orb, they are added to the team's “bank,” where others can utilize the materials for crafting. Note: when the match is over, the materials are removed from your inventory, so don't try to save them for future matches!

Objectives

The objectives in Conquest are quite simple: to capture the various points of the map. This type is commonly known as domination, where you want to control as much of the map as possible. Some of the capture points have turrets attached, although most don't. The ones that do, however, can be charged by using Nexus Infusion, the same skill used in Ember Isle Onslaughts. If you need Planar Charges, these can be obtained by crystals on the field, also the same as on Ember Isle.

Perks

The perks earned from doing Conquest are earned very slowly and do not grant much of a bonus. As an example, you start out with 40k Conquest Points and the maximum rewards are at 180k. After three matches (all of which were won), I was up to 42,140 points, so I earned about 713 or so per match. Considering the time it takes to do each one, this is a significant time-sink. Regardless, the bonuses are free and therefore any help is of benefit. Just don't expect to farm through them quickly! Think of them as being more along the lines of Planar Attunement.

Rewards

I'm actually pretty happy with the Conquest rewards. Each win is around 250k experience, as well as Favor, Prestige some Marks of Conquest and possibly Inscribed Sourcestones if you kill the boss that spawns at the end. Along with this, there is a weekly quest that grants 390k experience, 25 Marks of Conquest, 1.2k Favor and 1,875 Prestige. The quest is somewhat easy to complete as well, requiring only 300 enemy kills and gaining control of 25 Extractors.

Balance

Team balance is probably the worst part of the Conquest system. It tries to fix the problem by disabling joining a team that is already zerg-like (meaning that it has a lot more players than the other teams), but usually that's too late and once a team has a great force, it's hard to push them back. To fix this, the system should really have some type of queue system prior to starting (even if it's just a couple minutes) to try and balance teams prior to the match's start.

Conclusion

Overall I'm pretty happy with the addition of Conquest, however I have doubts about how long it'll be before the novelty wears off. Due to how it's set up, it causes a lot of confusion among players and often turns into a massive battle where nobody really knows what's going on and just starts attacking random players. Along with this, the mixture of multiple raids often makes it tough to help your team, as people consistently split up and therefore healers and buffers can't be too effective. It's definitely a step in the right direction, though, and hopefully it can be refined to help alleviate the issues it currently experiences!
