DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT THE DEVTOME PROJECT AND KEEP THE SITE UP/ALIVE PLEASE DONATE (EVEN IF ITS A SATOSHI) TO OUR DEVCOIN 1M4PCuMXvpWX6LHPkBEf3LJ2z1boZv4EQa OR OUR BTC WALLET 16eqEcqfw4zHUh2znvMcmRzGVwCn7CJLxR TO ALLOW US TO AFFORD THE HOSTING.

THE DEVCOIN AND DEVTOME PROJECTS ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO ITS FURTHER SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER 5 OR MORE YEARS!

As stated previously, new information about Rift 3.0 was soon to come, and it is already here! While there is still not a lot known about this upcoming patch yet, Trion has given some slight glimpses into what we can expect going forward.

Daglar, Rift's executive producer, has made a blog post talking about Rift 3.0: Nightmare Tide. Through this post, Daglar states that we can look forward to:

  • New enemies
  • New allies
  • Plots that threaten the entirety of existence
  • New dungeons
  • New raids
  • New raid rifts
  • New slivers
  • New artifacts and collections
  • New weapons and armor that can be crafted

Author's note: this article has a lot of speculation towards what is going to be coming, based on things that were stated by Daglar. With that said, don't take any of the speculation (other than what is in quotes) as being factual at this point, but rather opinions.

Nightmare Rifts

As part of the new rifts, there will also be a new type, called Nightmare Rifts. The following was stated about these:

Nightmare Tide also expands our dynamic content offering with an entirely new rift type: Nightmare Rifts! These rifts feature scaling difficulty and nearly endless waves of foes to test your skills and determination. Twisted enemies, hectic challenges, and a surreal environment await those who are up to the challenge (and the all-new art for Nightmare rifts is absolutely wicked, bringing a brand new feel to rifts!).

This definitely sounds like a great addition to Rift, and we are looking forward to seeing how they pan out. The sound of these makes it seem like they may be a type of raid rift, and while that may not be true, we can pretty much bet they will be based on groups (being that they are “nearly endless”). We will report more on these as soon as more information comes to light!

Minions

A new account-wide collectible called minions are being introduced in Rift 3.0: Nightmare Tide. These are part of a new game system where players must send the minions out on missions, where they will (with any luck) bring back rewards. There is not a lot of information on this system yet, but it sounds a lot like it will be along the lines of the companion system from Star Wars: The Old Republic.

New Equipment Slots

Coming with Nightmare Tide are some new equipment slots. What these will be like is anyone's guess at this point, however the following was stated in terms of obtaining the slots (or unlocking them):

You will be able to unlock these new slots for your entire account by purchasing a digital edition of Nightmare Tide, or you may unlock these new slots per character by playing the game and investing time and resources.

It is hard to speculate on how this is going to work right now, but the “time and resources” part makes it appear as if it deals with crafting or doing some kind of quest line and paying a lot of Platinum at the end of it.

Increased Level Cap

This is going to be a huge bonus for a lot of players. The level cap is being raised by 5, to a cap of 65! Storm Legion brought about 10 new levels and they were about the equivalent of leveling from 1-50 again. As such, was can pretty much guess that it is going to be the same with these extra 5 (but with it being like going from 1-60). The following was stated in regards to new skills as well:

With each of these new levels, you will gain a Mastery from a suite of options based on your Calling (as opposed to your selected Souls). Masteries are designed to expand your choice in builds, add new synergies, and let you further customize your character so you can play how you want to play. We believe that the Mastery system will add diversity and choice to the Soul system, without adding unneeded complication.

We already have our soul system and the Rift Planar Attunement system. This new skill system appears to be yet another addition that will help give some customization to each character, further separating players from one another, even with similar builds.

New Gear

As stated earlier, new gear is going to be making its way in to Rift 3.0. This could be expected, though, being that the same thing happened when Storm Legion was released (partly due to the increased level cap). The following was stated in regards to the new gear and its effect on existing items:

The current plan is to ensure that the best gear in the game today lasts you all the way to level 65 – and a bit beyond. If you are decked out in high-end gear, don’t expect to replace all of it with a green drop in the first zone. You can gain a distinct advantage for the release of Nightmare Tide by playing now and obtaining better gear.

This is pretty much exactly how Storm Legion was as well, as evidenced by the look at Storm Legion's difficulty. Essentially the gist of this is that while obtaining the top gear now can be considered as a waste of time (being that it will be easily made obsolete in the upcoming expansion), it will make getting to the new level cap of 65 much faster and easier. So while the gear itself won't be the top for long, for most players it is still worth pushing towards. Not to mention there is still a long time before the expansion comes out!

Conclusion

Rift 3.0: Nightmare Tide is looking to be a great expansion to Rift. It is stated as being yet another free addition, and there is no information at this point as to what all will have to be purchased. With that said, Trion has been doing a great job at keeping the majority of the game completely free, while allowing things like REX to be used for purchasing the others.

As always, we will keep you informed as new information comes to light, and more analyzing of the data that is given will come along with it! Thanks for reading, and please feel free to speculate in the comments. Let's see if we can get this update locked down!
