DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT THE DEVTOME PROJECT AND KEEP THE SITE UP/ALIVE PLEASE DONATE (EVEN IF ITS A SATOSHI) TO OUR DEVCOIN 1M4PCuMXvpWX6LHPkBEf3LJ2z1boZv4EQa OR OUR BTC WALLET 16eqEcqfw4zHUh2znvMcmRzGVwCn7CJLxR TO ALLOW US TO AFFORD THE HOSTING.

THE DEVCOIN AND DEVTOME PROJECTS ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO ITS FURTHER SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER 5 OR MORE YEARS!

With the release of the first set of Rift 1.7 PTS patch notes has come a lot of criticism. Players appear to be across the field in their view of this patch, but many are against one of the biggest changes: gear boosts.

The problem with the doomsayers is that they are basing opinions on their own play-style. As an example, here are some of the views that have been seen:

  • “I worked hard for my HK gear, so it's not fair for others to have it given to them”
  • “Why put us on the same level as casual players?”
  • “This is going to make getting through the raids too easy!”

When it comes down to it, different players look at raiding differently. In Trion's case, this leads to a balance between the tiers. Their goal appears to be making older content more accessible, while at the same time making newer content less accessible. The end-result of this is that the more hardcore players get their challenges met, while the casual (or middle) players get to still experience everything (minus the difficulty).

To help players better assimilate to the changes, here are some things you can do to help account for the three feelings listed previously:

It's not fair for casuals to get an easier ride!

If this is the way you feel, just consider that you (likely) achieved it before them. They are basically getting an easy ride because the content is old and therefore it's better for some players to be doing it than to have nobody working on it. Using the information from the previous patches up through now (regarding the various content nerfs), you could just as easily not rush through content and instead take it casually. It's a choice you have to make.

Why treat raiders like casuals?!

Despite the view that's pushed due to the changes, this couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, these nerfs come before new content is released. This means that while the casual players are working on Hammerknell and Rise of the Phoenix, you will be working on the latest and greatest raids. And when newer ones past that are released, the previous ones will become nerfed. It's a cycle that, as stated before, allows all players to have accessible raids.

Raids are going to be too easy now!

This one's a pretty easy fix. You can simply create your own handicap. For example, if it's the gear changes that annoy you, simply swap out gear pieces (or unequip) until you have about the same stats as before. Now you're raiding just like pre patch, with the same difficulty! You could also consider other changes like not using certain buffs, potions, etc. The result is that if you feel raids are too easy, you have the choice to make them harder.

As for the gear changes, I posted an example of a Tier 1 raid helmet in the Rift 1.7 PTS notes #1, but here's an enhanced version that compares the same one to today's Tier 2 raid version. The items being compared are the Amunet's Hood (Tier 1 Raid) and Nyx's Runeburst Cowl (Tier 2 Raid), both cloth helmets.

As you can see from the above, there is still a decent difference between the Tier 1 and Tier 2 raid gear. And Tier 3 is even bigger than that.

Furthermore, keep in mind that the Rift 1.7 PTS notes are not set in stone. They will be changing them as needed and are listening to player feedback. Any of the changes can be reverted or altered prior to the release of 1.7.
