DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT THE DEVTOME PROJECT AND KEEP THE SITE UP/ALIVE PLEASE DONATE (EVEN IF ITS A SATOSHI) TO OUR DEVCOIN 1M4PCuMXvpWX6LHPkBEf3LJ2z1boZv4EQa OR OUR BTC WALLET 16eqEcqfw4zHUh2znvMcmRzGVwCn7CJLxR TO ALLOW US TO AFFORD THE HOSTING.

THE DEVCOIN AND DEVTOME PROJECTS ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO ITS FURTHER SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER 5 OR MORE YEARS!

A request I've seen a bit in game is the addition of more 10 man raids. While some guilds are able to run the 20 mans, they are much more scarce than those who can run 10 mans. This is partly due to the declining population but also due to being repetitive. To help make things a lot more accessible, I've come up with a couple of possible fixes.

As it is, 20 man raids are causing problems with Rift due to population issues and other complications. After speaking with multiple guild leaders who used to raid, as well as being in multiple raiding guilds myself, I've come to the conclusion that the problem is compounding. As of lately, a lot of guilds are having problems with in guild raiding and are having to pick up group at least a few members.

While pick up group raiding isn't necessarily bad, and is quite doable, the fact that it's quickly becoming a necessity helps show that there's a problem that needs to be evaluated. While some guilds are not experiencing these problems, many are. In fact, there are even HK level guilds that are having problems filling their spots.

To fix this problem there are two possible solutions I can think of:

  • Create two difficulties and allow better rewards for the 20 man. As an example, there could be 50% more Marks and a higher drop rate for the 20 man, but both could still have the same drop items. This would help because it would reward those who can handle the 20 mans with more items, but would still allow players to run the 10 man version to get geared up
  • Convert the 20 mans into 10 mans. This one would be a bit controversial I think, but as time goes on it becomes more of a “necessary evil.” In this sense, we would have only 10 man raids

Do keep in mind that with both of the above ideas, the difficulty of the raids can be ramped up to compensate for having less players (much like how Master Mode dungeons are).

While these changes may not resolve all of the problems, they would help open up the possibility of raiding to a lot more players, which would enhance re-playability and also player retention. While it can be argued that we already have 10 man raids, accessibility is seen as being a major focus of Rift and this would help make end game content more accessible. 10 man raids can be just as tough as 20 man ones; the only difference is that it's a lot easier to find 10 players than it is 20.
