Princess Madeleine of Sweden

Princess Madeleine Thérèse Amelie Josephine is the third child of King Carl Gustasf and Queen Silvia of Sweden

She was born on 10th June 1982 in Drottningholm Palace and given the title Duchess of Hälsingland and Gästrikland. She is currently fourth in line to the throne. She graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in art history, ethnology and modern history from Stockholm University.

Controversies

In 2009, Princess Madeleine got officially engaged to Jonas Bergstrom, whom she had been dating since 2002. In 2010, the Swedish press broke the story that Jonas Bergstrom had had a one night stand with a student Tora Uppstrom at a Swedish ski resort - Tora Uppstrom had gone to the press with the story. Humiliated and distressed, Princess Madeleine broke off the engagement, and fled to New York, ostensibly to run the American branch of her mother's children's charity World Childhood Foundation, but more likely to get away from the cameras and press interest in Sweden.

While in New York, she met Christopher O'Neil, a British-American hedge fund manager. The pair met in early 2011 and moved in together in November 2011. In December 2012, their engagement was announced and they formally got married in the Royal Palace Chapel on 8th June 2013.

Chris O'Neill caused a bit of a stir in the Swedish press when he declined the offer of King Carl Gustaf to make him a prince on marrying Princess Madeleine. It is thought that the couple will settle in New York to live a life outside the spotlight.
