I will try to teach you how to make entertaining graciously fun and simple.

You may be faced with an occasion where you may have to invite visitors. It may be a holiday, thanksgiving, anniversary, birthday, wedding, etc. Friends who are invited to any of these occasions would welcome the opportunity to enjoy games, storytelling, music, picture taking and other recreational activities.

And yet, the food - including the refreshments - you prepare can really make the good times roll.

What to Prepare

The kinds of food you may serve at a party can be determined by the type of party you're throwing, season of the year, your budget, number of persons who will assist in the serving, party location, and number of people to be served.

Here are two simple recipes you can add to the fun of the holiday season - and to any occasion you're hosting.

Stir-fried Vegetables


  • 1/4 kilo chicharo
  • 1/2 kilo cauliflower
  • 1/4 kilo carrots
  • 100 grams cabbage
  • celery stalks
  • 1/4 kilo fresh mushroom
  • 1/2 kilo tofu
  • water
  • soy sauce
  • black pepper
  • salt
  • onions
  • garlic
  • oil
  • flavoring (optional)


1. Prepare and clean vegetables.

2. Prefry tofu

3. Saute garlic, onions, in little oil.

4. Add the tofu, salt and a little soy sauce. black pepper, and flavoring (optional).

5. Add 1/2 cup water. Let boil.

6. Add the cauliflower. Simmer, then add all the vegetables.

7. Continue cooking until ingredients are cooked just right. Don't overcook.



  • 1/2 kilo Glutinous rice (ground, ready to use)
  • 1 grated coconut
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup desiccated coconut
  • marshmallows
  • fancy toothpicks


1. Mold glutinous rice into balls. Set aside.

2. Extract about three cups milk from the coconut.

3. Let coconut milk boil, then drop glutinous rice balls into it.

4. When the balls float (that means they're cooked), allow them to cool.

5. Roll them into the sugar and desiccated coconut.

6. Prick them and the marshmallows with the fancy toothpicks

Be a Successful Hostess

1. Make the guest feel welcome or feel at home.

2. When a guest arrives, rise and greet him/her.

3. Introduce him/her to any person who might be already in the room.

4. Make the guest comfortable in every way.

5. See that everybody is served with refreshments before they go.

6. See to it that everybody is treated equally.

7. Provide an atmosphere of hospitality for it is a key to success in entertaining.
