DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT THE DEVTOME PROJECT AND KEEP THE SITE UP/ALIVE PLEASE DONATE (EVEN IF ITS A SATOSHI) TO OUR DEVCOIN 1M4PCuMXvpWX6LHPkBEf3LJ2z1boZv4EQa OR OUR BTC WALLET 16eqEcqfw4zHUh2znvMcmRzGVwCn7CJLxR TO ALLOW US TO AFFORD THE HOSTING.

THE DEVCOIN AND DEVTOME PROJECTS ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO ITS FURTHER SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER 5 OR MORE YEARS!

Metal Gear Solid V - The Phantom Pain

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is a tactical stealth, action adventure game with an open-world map and sandbox play style, directed by Hideo Kojima. It is the chronological sequel to Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, being the eleventh canon game in the series.

Plot

In Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, The Big Boss was already undertaking in an operation on a Black Site, tasked with rescuing Chico and Paz. On their way to MSF, Mother Base, Chico finds a suture on Paz's stomach, Big Boss and the MSF Medic remove a planted C4 with the Peace Sign. They return to base only to find it almost completely destroyed. After rescuing Miller from the platform, he expressed how the Nuclear Inspection supposedly from the IAEA was just a decoy for the real operation, for Cipher to take out MSF and Big Boss. During a helicopter crash, Big Boss falls into a coma.

In Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, the player finds themself waking up from a coma nine years later, March 11, 1984, in the Dhekelia SBA Memorial Hospital in Cyprus, a concealed site from Cipher. A few weeks later, Cipher knows that Big Boss awakened from his coma, and Quiet was tasked with taking him out. However, Ishmael, a patient who was under care in the same room as Big Boss, took out Quiet by setting her on fire with medical supplies. Since Big Boss's muscles atrophied, he isn't able to move for the first fraction of the mission. It is shown that Cipher is exterminating everyone in the hospital, with the primary objective to make sure that Big Boss is confirmed dead. Eventually the two managed to escape the hospital with an Ambulance, but an enemy attack helicopter tailed them and eventually crashed into a ditch. The player wakes up shortly to find Ishmael gone, while Ocelot retrieves him as they escape from the hospital. A Chase seen with the “Man-on-Fire” ensues and Ocelot trains Big Boss to his normal self while they take a boat to go to their Mother Base, Diamond Dogs.

Gameplay and Features

The Phantom Pain shares it's gameplay heavily from Peace Walker and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and contains a huge number of features compared to the last Metal Gear Solid games.

Open World Gameplay

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is the first game in the Metal Gear series to feature an Open World experience, which in itself means that the player has control over where they want to go and do versus a linear gameplay of missions and areas. The player can either ensue on a Main Ops mission designed in certain areas, and upon completing the mission they can exfiltrate either through helicopter, or just simply leaving the designed area, which will not bring Big Boss back to the Aerial Command Chopper, but instead simply being able to freely roam around the map.

Aerial Command Chopper (ACC)

The Aerial Command Chopper is simply Diamond Dog's personal helicopter transport and base management system. The player can partake in Main Ops missions from here, drop into the maps to free roam or complete Side Ops or just manage their base in general. There a plethora of things the player can or cannot do if they're not in the ACC.

Weapon Customization

While previous Metal Gear Solid games allowed the player to equip certain attachments during missions, The Phantom Pain includes a Weapon Customization System allowing them to change their firearm's Barrel, Foregrip, Sight, Stock, Magazine, Ammo Types for Magazines and Silencers onto weapons that might not normally have one. This is customized in the ACC and requires a Side Op to be completed to unlock this feature in game.

Mother Base Staff

The heart of building up Mother Base relies solely on Recruitment of Units and Staff in the game. This is done in a plethora of ways, the player using the Fulton Recovery System on enemies, POWs and mission targets on the battlefield, units volunteering after a mission is completed and stealing them from FOBs. With more staff, the player is able to unlock more equipment in Research & Development, increase speed of recovery for injured personnel, increase the efficiency/success rate of support tactics and Fulton Recovery,

Fulton Recovery System

The Fulton Recovery system is a very unique game mechanic that first appeared in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. It allows the player to extract POWs, Soldiers, Targets, Vehicles, Weapons and Item containers inside Phantom Pain. The World can interact with each Fulton deployed, for example a dust storm gives a lower chance of a successful extraction. Increasing your Medical Team and Support Team's level will eventually increase the success rate though. The Fulton Recovery System is the best way to obtain Staff for your base, as well as the only way to retrieve stationary weapons like Mortars and .50 Cal weapons and vehicles.

Playing as Staff Members

One of the Unique features in The Phantom Pain compared to Peace Walkers was the fact that you could play as one of your Mother Base's Members in the Main Ops instead of just Side Ops. While your player model never appears during the cutscenes, it is entirely possible to play throughout the rest of the game by just using an MSF soldier, and there are special advantages like the soldier being controlled have a special ability.

Reception

The game overall received great praise from many critics along with exceptionally great reviews from fans of the series. While some argue that the game lacked in Story Composition, it sacrificed the series's notoriously long cutscenes by placing hours worth of content into tapes the player can listen to at any time of the game.
