How to Make Hot Cocoa From Scratch

Introduction

Almost everyone enjoys a nice cup of hot chocolate, or hot cocoa, after a day in the snow during winter. What most people do is add cocoa mix, such as “Swiss Miss” or “Nesle” brand, to hot water. But Hot Cocoa can be made without mix, from scratch, and can be much tastier.

Step 1

First, heat up some a cream and milk mixture, 75% whole milk and 25% half and half. For a healthier version use 50% skim milk and 50% whole milk. Heat up approximately as much as you are planning to make. For example, if you heat up 250 milliliters, you will most likely get about 250 to 275 milliliters of hot cocoa.

Step 2

Next, melt some chocolate. It can be dark or milk, depending whether you want a nice, bittersweet tang or the creamy smoothness of milk chocolate. Mix in the melted chocolate with the milk.

Step 3

Wait for it to cool and then enjoy! Your hot cocoa should be ready!
