DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT THE DEVTOME PROJECT AND KEEP THE SITE UP/ALIVE PLEASE DONATE (EVEN IF ITS A SATOSHI) TO OUR DEVCOIN 1M4PCuMXvpWX6LHPkBEf3LJ2z1boZv4EQa OR OUR BTC WALLET 16eqEcqfw4zHUh2znvMcmRzGVwCn7CJLxR TO ALLOW US TO AFFORD THE HOSTING.

THE DEVCOIN AND DEVTOME PROJECTS ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO ITS FURTHER SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER 5 OR MORE YEARS!

Lux middle guide

/!\ Due to the latest patch this article is now outdated and needs a rework /!\

This is a guide for a character in League of Legends.

Lux the Lady of Luminosity.

Lux is mainly played as an AP middle and can fit support role. This guide will be about her Gameplay on the middle lane.

Pros/Cons

Pros

  • Two crowd controls.
  • Ulti with a high range.
  • Stupid hit boxes.

Cons

  • Melee AP.
  • Squishy.

Summoner spells

  • Flash: It will help you to escape from ganks mostly.
  • Ignite: Ignite is usually sets on the AP middle by default (I mean from the team composition). One or two ignite per team are viable.

Skills

  • Illumination (Passive): Any time lux deals damage to an enemy with her spells he will be marked for 6 seconds. She will deal bonus magic damage on her auto attacks and her ultimate as follows: (10+10*level). This will consume the mark.

This is a decent passive but only few players use it (it's increasing with their ELO). As lux can poke from a great range they don't bother to come at auto attack range to deal a little more DPS but you should.

  • Light Binding (Q): Lux releases a short wave on energy in front of her dealing magic damages up to two targets as follows: (60/110/160/210/260 70%AP on the primary target) and (30/55/80/105/130 +35% AP on the secondary target). The primary target is rooted for 2 seconds whereas the secondary target is rooted for 1 second.
    Range 1175. Cooldown: (15/14/13/12/11). Cost: (50/60/70/80/90 mana).

A long distance root, it’s a unique skill in the game. Once you are rooted you can do anything (casting spell, auto attacks) but moving for its duration. The missile speed is pretty fast (1200) and difficult to avoid within mid-range.

  • Prismatic Barrier (W): Passive: Lux throws her magic wand as a boomerang in a lane in front of her, shielding herself and the allied heroes on its path up to 3 seconds as follows: (80/105/130/155/180 +35AP as a shield). If the wand passes through a shielded target on its way back the shield is refreshed.
    Range: 1075 Cooldown: (14/13/12/11/10). Cost: 60 mana.

Lux is shielded upon casting and the shield timer is refreshed when the wand comes back at her. It's your utility skill. The “missile” speed is pretty fast too. It works as a skill shot shielding your mates up to to times but it doesn't stack.

  • Lucent Singularity (E): Lucy sends a bolt of energy at targeted location for 5 seconds, at the end of its duration it explodes dealing AOE magic damages as follows: (60/105/150/195/240 +60% AP). It also applies an AOE slow within its duration as follows: (20/24/28/32/36% movement reduction). Lucent singularity can be recasted within its duration to explode at will. Lucent singularity grants sight around it.
    Range: 1100. Cooldown: 10. Cost: (70/85/100/115/130 Mana).

The slow is applied within its AOE before it explodes then it deals damages. It's another crowd controls that make Lux excelling in tactical/positioning fight. The hit box is slightly bigger than its animation so you can often caught enemies who thought they were in a safe spot. You can also use this skill when you escape in combination with Q.

  • Final Spark (R) (Ultimate): After a brief casting time of 0.5 seconds Lux cast a major beam in front of her with a large scale dealing AOE magic damages on its path as: (300/400/500 +75% AP). An enemy marked with Illumination will see it consumed and then reapplied.
    Range: 3000. Cooldown: (80/65/50). Cost: 100 mana.

It has a Great range and a decent cooldown. Here the hit box is also wider than its animation and a bit longer than its range. Lux is channeling it for 0.5 seconds but she cannot be interrupted here. She will ignore crowd controls during the casting time but she will suffer from them after it. IF lux is knocked back within its casting time the beam still fires from its original position. You can cast it from a safe position while teamfighting. You can cast it to score kills that no one can normally because of its high range.

Skill Sequence

01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18
Q x x x x x
W x x x x x
E x x x x x
R x x x

E has more potential. The skill order is E then Q then W.

Masteries

This setup will be the standard one for the AP in season 4

  • On the offensive tree everything AP related. Devastating strike is mandatory and Arcane blade will force you to play a more optimal Lux, using her passive.
  • On the utility tree Alchemist and culinary Master combined with a flask + pot will helps you a lot for your early sustain. It will even allow you to take more risks early avoiding a granted trip back if you take too many damages. The tree now override the standard setup from the season 3 as the sustain from it is so high.

Runes

The rune page is oriented toward AP.

  • 9X Hybrid penetration (marks). It’s the same thing here. To DPS the most with Lux you have to play with your auto attacks, not just casting QER from a safe range. The trick will work at lower ELO but once you reach gold (1500 ELO) you have to play every hero with the intent to use it at his maximum potential. The reward should always be higher than the additional risks you take.
  • 9X Flat AP (seals). Depending on the meta you may chose Flat armor too if you have many encounters with AD middle like Zed, Talon and Kha'Zix. You will not need the standard mana regen rune either as your early is heavily weighted toward regeneration from your masteries and stuff.
  • 9X Flat AP (glyphs). I like to start with flat AP for more lane domination. You can tweak it with flat armor for even more sustain early.
  • 3X Flat AP (Quintessences). You can tweak it few Magic pen if you feel that is too much.

Build

I start with a Flask (375) +3 biscuits (35×3) (450 total). This set up will allow you to stay in lane longer and it synergizes with your utility tree. On the next trip back you start building Athene's Unholy Grail (2600) either by Chalice of Harmony (880) or Fiendish Codex (820) + boots 1 (325), (1145-1205 total). On the next trip Back you finish Athene's Unholy Grail then you strat building Rabadon's Deathcap (3300). You core will be: Sorcerer's Shoes (1100) + Athene's Unholy Grail (2600) + Rabadon's Deathcap (3300). Your standard after core is Void Staff (2295). An optional item is Lich Bane (3000) if you are used to play an auto-attacking Lux. You can consider a Morellonomicon (2200) as well. The atlernative Rylai's Cristal Scepter (2900) + Liandry's Torment (2900) is also viable.

Gameplay mid

Lux's laning is safe from start and you already don't really fear ganks once you hit level 2. Lux is almost the hardest hero to gank early because of her two crowd control skills. Monitor your mana pool and then land some E if you can catch the enemy AP alongside the creeps. In a general way you last hit with you auto attack easily. If the enemy try to be aggressive just punish him with E+Q, you can ever land W to counter is skill shots if you didn't avoided them.
