DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT THE DEVTOME PROJECT AND KEEP THE SITE UP/ALIVE PLEASE DONATE (EVEN IF ITS A SATOSHI) TO OUR DEVCOIN 1M4PCuMXvpWX6LHPkBEf3LJ2z1boZv4EQa OR OUR BTC WALLET 16eqEcqfw4zHUh2znvMcmRzGVwCn7CJLxR TO ALLOW US TO AFFORD THE HOSTING.

THE DEVCOIN AND DEVTOME PROJECTS ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO ITS FURTHER SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER 5 OR MORE YEARS!

Let's Play Rift: Episode 6

Introduction

Hi everyone. This is Raptorak, bringing the sixth episode of the We Play Rift articles to you. By now you should already know how these things work, so we will just jump straight in to it!

Character

Today we are continuing Larem, who just recently hit level forty five. At this point, here are his stats:

Today's Agenda

First off, we need to do some soul building, although just a little amount. After this, we are going to continue our journey to level forty six!

Soul Building

We only have three soul points to allocate here, so we throw them in to passive skills called Steady Hand and Penetrating Shots. These unlock a new skill for us, Diffuse, which intercepts all damage we would otherwise take from enemies for ten seconds. It is not that useful because we play it safe (most of the time), but as we have seen, that does not always work as expected. As a result, we go ahead and add Diffuse to the hot bar so we can use it as needed. The only hard part now is remembering it is there; in the heat of battle sometimes it is hard to fully evaluate what we need to do.

Now that everything is taken care of, we make our way back to Whitefall to turn in our two active quests and see what is new for us. We turn in these quests and get one that just sends us to speak to another NPC. This sends us to do exorcisms on some of the villagers. This quest turns out to be interesting because while the exorcisms work on some of the villagers, others turn hostile. Luckily they are pretty easy to take down, so this is not a problem!

Next, we head over to a bridge to help protect it. The goal is to keep enemies from crossing the bridge, which turns out to be a lot harder than it seemed in the beginning. There are a lot of mobs, and trying to take them all on at once leads to death. The second try leads to a fail as well, which was to pull one or two across the bridge, kiting them instead of just taking them head on. The final test does work, though, which is to simply wait until they start to run across the bridge and then take them on. By using this method, we find out that only a couple at a time come, rather than the entire group, making this quest pretty simple!

It is now time to go after a NPC named Defender Krogan, a traitor. Detaining him would be too easy, so instead we have to kill him. It is not as easy as just targeting and killing him, though, and instead he starts spawning new mobs to come attack us. As they drop one by one, we are finally able to kill him and finish this quest.

Next up is a pretty easy quest. All we have to do is kill a lot of abominable snowmen, or at least that is what they look like. Not a problem, as they are just regular mobs.

This is where things start to get a bit more tough. Now we have to take down Thunder Wardens, which are like totems. While they do not do any attacks on their own, they do spawn mobs that attack us, which easily gets overwhelming. We use the method of attacking and running to get these down, so as to keep from having to deal with mobs spawning all around us. There are a few close calls during this, but it all works out in the end.

The next couple quests are annoying in that they take place in caves again and require a lot of going back and forth. The mobs within the caves are not too dense, but there are enough of them that the constant traveling starts to become an issue pretty quick. To make things a bit easier with this run, there was another player working on their quests as well. This made clearing the mobs out much faster, which also decreased the number of mobs spawns we had to deal with on the way through the caves. Once the quests here were done, Soul Recall was the best option for exiting; by the time we got this far, it was too irritating to want to fight our way back to the entrance again!

With all of these quests finished and turned in, we are ready to make our way back to Pilgrim's Crossing. Here, we get a new quest.

i.imgur.com_onn93n2l.jpg

This quest sends us out to disarm some bombs. There is a NPC we follow, and he tries to help kill the enemies along the way, but he is pretty weak so he does not help that much. Even so, we manage to disarm all of the mobs. We then make our way back to Pilgrim's Crossing and pick up a new quest.

This quest sends us off to the north to a new camp. Here, we turn it in and unlock a lot of new ones.

The new quests send us in to even more caves, killing mobs and working our way through it. These caves are really not that bad, though, in that they are pretty open and it is very easy to pull just one or two (in the case of mobs that have summons) mobs at a time. We clear these quests pretty quick and then turn them in.

At this point there are no new quests here, so we head on over to Whitefall to see if there is anything new there. Nothing at all… this means it is time for the next zone! We go ahead and teleport over to Exile's Den, which is the closest point to where we want to go. From here, we go west to where our quest wants us to go.

After turning in the quest there, we are sent on a short journey over to the first camp in Stillmoor, Crusader's Advance. Here, we start picking up more quests.

i.imgur.com_8q86gg9l.jpg

These quests range from getting in some kills to cleansing the souls of some mobs, and even to turning one of the mobs in to an ally and taking it back to the camp. These quests do not take very long to do, and are pretty simple because the mobs are spread out enough that there is really no risk (aside from a rift that spawns right as we are in the middle of doing these quests… but we can avoid it somewhat easily).

With these quests done, we head back to the camp to turn them in. We pick up some new ones, but before taking off to complete them we knock out one here at the camp that deals with overseeing an interrogation. We do not really do anything here, though, and just watch.

i.imgur.com_qhv1kkdl.jpg

After the interrogation is over, we head to the north west to start working on these new quests. All of them are in the same general area, although it is still pretty tough because the mob density is very high. To make matters worse, a lot of the mobs also do pathing, which makes it very hard to effectively kite them as needed since you never know when another one is going to sneak up behind you!

The quests in this area deal with praying at altars, causing NPC's to commit suicide and slaying different mobs.

After turning in all of the quests, we are given a final one for this area: to poison Lillithiara, an elite. Normally this fight would be a little tough, but as we are running to her we read what to do; we need her to drink our poisoned blood. So we make our way to where she spawns, then use the poison quest skill. It does not seem to do anything, so we run up to her to use it again. Again it does not appear to do anything, but we start to notice that she is barely doing any damage. This is because of the poison. So we finish her off and head back to the camp to turn in the quest.

Our final quest we pick up in the camp takes us to the next camp, Warden's Descent. When we get here, we notice pretty quick that it has been overrun by an invasion. Rather than take it on ourselves (since all of the mobs are above our level), we call in reinforcements. We sit back and let the reinforcements clear out the camp, and then we turn in the quest and level up to forty six!

This is a great stopping point for episode 6. The next time, we will continue on our path from forty six to forty seven!
