DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT THE DEVTOME PROJECT AND KEEP THE SITE UP/ALIVE PLEASE DONATE (EVEN IF ITS A SATOSHI) TO OUR DEVCOIN 1M4PCuMXvpWX6LHPkBEf3LJ2z1boZv4EQa OR OUR BTC WALLET 16eqEcqfw4zHUh2znvMcmRzGVwCn7CJLxR TO ALLOW US TO AFFORD THE HOSTING.

THE DEVCOIN AND DEVTOME PROJECTS ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO ITS FURTHER SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER 5 OR MORE YEARS!

Character

I am continuing from where episode two left off, with the character Larem, a level 41 Guardian Rogue.

Our Zone and Goal

Right now we are in Iron Pine Peak, but we need to head to the Droughtlands to continue along our quest path.

i.imgur.com_cm3gzxel.jpg

Opening the map, we start to plan out our path. It looks like the best plan of action is as follows:

  • Teleport to Scarwood Reach and go south in to Stonefield
  • North east in to Freemarch
  • South east in to Droughtlands

As you can see, this is going to be a very long journey. Luckily we have our trusty mount! To speed things up, we are going to be taking shortcuts where possible, rather than just taking the roads and paths the entire way. We will still be avoiding as many mobs as possible though, so as to make this faster.

i.imgur.com_n1kz4l8l.jpg

To make finding the exact points where the maps cross over, we use custom location markers. These then show us on the mini map exactly where we need to be headed towards. Our quest, while it shows the location of where we want to end up, is a straight line, so it is not that helpful in this case. While we could just follow the mini map, having our custom marker makes this much easier!

i.imgur.com_ouuprr2l.jpg

As we are traveling, we come across Sunrest Bridge. Uh oh, there are a ton of mobs on it. Should we take the time to try and clear them out? No way. We will just rush through them, let them kill us as we are running, and then Soul Walk to resurrect so we can take off again. Sure, it will cost us around ten gold, but the time savings are well worth it. Not to mention the mobs are five levels below us and therefore have no real value at this point anyways.

i.imgur.com_co2d3pbl.jpg

Now that we are finally in to Stonefield, it is time to continue, now to the north east. We open the map to set our new custom marker so we know where we can cross over in to Freemarch at, and we take off!

i.imgur.com_g8qupcjl.jpg

As we are going across the lands, we run in to a Defiant quest hub and a porticulum. Oddly enough, we are able to bind here so we go ahead and unlock it for easier access in the future. We can not, however, do any of the quests that are located here as they are for the other faction.

i.imgur.com_kwhgvoxl.jpg

Ever wanted to kill some trolls? Here is your chance! Tons of them, like a troll farm, all for your killing pleasure. And what is this just beside them? Wow, another porticulum!

i.imgur.com_pzgfgdvl.jpg

When we cross over in to Freemarch, we run in to their starting area. There is a porticulum here, but there are also a lot of aggressive guards. We have to be careful traveling through here to ensure we are not hit by any while we unlock the porticulum. Success! We made it safely.

i.imgur.com_jmzqpfsl.jpg

It is time to set the last crossing point for our journey, Droughtlands. We then take off to go there.

i.imgur.com_yuvm8azl.jpg

Oops, this is not good. To get through this small area, we have to pull a level fifty guard. Luckily he is based on melee and we are forty one, or this could be bad. We go ahead and risk it anyways, as there is really no choice… luckily we make it through, but barely. This image does not do it justice as I was in a rush to get away but there was only a small sliver of health left when the two mobs were finally lost.

i.imgur.com_zizbqlnl.jpg

Yes, we have finally made it after a long, long run! Now it is time to get to business. As we cross the bridge, we find a couple new quests that we can pick up… but they are both too low level (only thirty six) so we skip them.

i.imgur.com_uazwngel.jpg

i.imgur.com_oz04d5al.jpg

We continue our journey up towards Lantern Hook, as this is where the porticulum for this zone is and we really need to unlock it before we do anything so that we can teleport easily between here and the other zones. After binding, it is time to continue our journey.

i.imgur.com_kdlwh4bl.jpg

This quest takes forever… there are so many spawns and more keep popping up. Not to mention the fact that the area where this quest takes place is tiered, so while it may look like we are just going a short distance, it is actually pretty long! Over time, though, we slowly make our way through it to the end. It is worth noting that I appeared to be the only person in the entire area. Were there to be others working on the same quest, or one of the others in this general area, it would have been a lot easier and faster to get to the top and get this done. Sadly, though, I was alone so I had to handle the entire place on my own! The mobs were really not that hard, but rather annoying due to the sheer population of them. Not to mention some of them were respawning as I went along, which slowed the process down even more…

i.imgur.com_ga2mb6hl.jpg

Wait, what is this? Now that we are finished we have to go back to Iron Pine Peak again! So we use Soul Recall to head back. After returning, we head down to Sanctuary and turn in the quest. Oh, nice, we have another part to do now, this one taking us to Pilgrim's Crossing!

i.imgur.com_3dnsrrkl.jpg

Before we head up to Pilgrim's Crossing, we find that there are a couple new quests in Whitefall. It is a good idea to get these done first before we move on, so we will get started! We will be knocking out some Firebrand mobs, which is actually useful for two of our quests: the new one and one that was picked up as an item that starts a quest.

i.imgur.com_qh4d7oil.jpg

While we are here, we also find a NPC that is needed for our other quest, where we are trying to see what is up with the missing wives. Are they dead? It looks like it!

i.imgur.com_zyvy9wpl.jpg

Upon checking out the knife, we then get a new quest as well, although all it is going to do is send us back to Whitefall so we will hold on to it until later. After completing our other quests, we get one to go kill Zathax Firebrand, so off we go! As we travel deeper in to the Firebrand's area, we have to be careful not to pull anything. Getting in to a fight while trying to get to the back will slow down progress and can halt it if there is a sudden spawn rush, so avoiding that is necessary. Sadly, even with this done, the fight against Zathax is tougher than planned due to his guards that start attacking as soon as he does. One death was enough to take down the two guards, and then taking down Zathax himself was pretty simple!

i.imgur.com_8jghfvml.jpg

i.imgur.com_ir09woul.jpg

With Zathax Firebrand down, it is time to turn in the quest and get the next one. This one has us collecting some survival gear. On our way there, we almost run in to the Defiant camp! It looks like a normal area, and has mobs out front. Sadly, though, this is not a hunting area but a camp. Luckily we avoided this one!

i.imgur.com_b1h8avml.jpg

As we get closer to the survival gear we need to pick up, we find that it is protected by some beasts. Luckily for us, they are spread out enough that we can pull them one by one without any problems and grab the gear after!

i.imgur.com_1otg3sol.jpg

This leads us to the next camp, Red Gold Claim. Here, we start grabbing some new quests!

i.imgur.com_sd44hill.jpg

These new quests turn out to be a bit harder than expected. Despite having the goal of killing a lot of normal mobs, these like to do stuns and dodge a lot. There are many attacks missed while fighting them, which makes each battle take a lot longer than it should. After a lot of careful movement and planning, though, all three quest objectives are satisfied and we are ready to go turn them in!

i.imgur.com_0jehurnl.jpg

Turning in all of these quests unlocks one more. We have to go back to the tough area we just finished with and take down the “big lizard,” Ruhil. As we get closer and closer to where he is, we find that he is surrounded by some other mobs. We have to take all of them on at once, and a very intense battle ensues. Luckily, some quick reactions with the tanking pet saved us this time, and even so that was still barely a success!

i.imgur.com_7qwwjq6l.jpg

i.imgur.com_zuiz0xcl.jpg

i.imgur.com_wo7vap8l.jpg

Looking at our quests, we notice while doing this that we still need to go way east to turn in Thedeor's Guidance. Before turning in the quest we just did, we Soul Recall (from the cave we are in) to Whitefall and head east. Turning in this quest gets us a new one, sending us off to kill the Redsnow Courier. At first it seems like there is going to be a lot of running around to do in order to find this courier, but then we remember… wait a minute, they only follow paths! Luckily, the path is pretty short so we sit in the middle and wait. After a couple of minutes he shows up with his two lackeys and a battle ensues. Two mobs get taken down and then we die, but not before grabbing the quest item! Success!

i.imgur.com_j85zi5hl.jpg

i.imgur.com_ujvmkekl.jpg

Upon getting to the last part of this quest, where we are to destroy the remnant, there is a problem. The anvil we are supposed to break the remnant on is not interactive! Reporting this to the GM and logging out appears to be a good idea, that way we are not sitting around waiting. After quite a while, we log in to see if it has been updated. No, so it is off to research and see how we can get this started over. Wait a second… we read that the remnant is supposed to be doing damage to us, “like the Fang of Regulos.” But we are taking no damage. Ahhh, this makes sense, and helps explain what the problem is. When we kill the courier, we have to stay alive after we loot him, as you lose the quest item when you die (but the quest makes no mention of this, nor does it move back a step if this happens, leading to major confusion). Not a problem, we can take him. This time a new strategy is used though, which is to take down the minions first, then the courier. This proves a lot easier, because the courier takes off running when you attack, leaving just the two minions to go. Our pet can more than handle two mobs, so we kill them and the courier returns so we can kill him quickly and loot the remnant. Yay, we are ready to move on! We destroy the remnant and continue this chain over to Lord-Protector Nerval, who we simply have to speak to.

i.imgur.com_0acywkbl.jpg

i.imgur.com_8ihnwiul.jpg

We now get a new quest to send us back to Sanctuary, so using Soul Recall and then heading south is the fastest way to get there. After turning the quest in, we unlock some new ones here in Sanctuary! We will go ahead and knock these out while we are still here.

i.imgur.com_qtrlkdql.jpg

We end up being sent to Sanctum for one of our quests, so we head there and turn it in. Luckily, it is the last one of the chain! It is now time to head back to Iron Pine Peak via Soul Recall so we can continue on our journey at Red Gold Claim. After turning in the quest, we are sent back to Whitefall!

i.imgur.com_emeqhyol.jpg

After returning to Whitefall, we pick up a new quest, reach level forty two, and find that there is a quest we can not pick up because of our level right now. At the same time, we also find that our current quest is level forty three, so we are going to call this the stopping point for Let's Play Rift: Episode 3!

I hope you enjoyed the journey, and I look forward to seeing you again for Episode 4!
