DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. THE DEVCOIN AND DEVTOME PROJECTS ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO ITS FURTHER SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER 5 OR MORE YEARS!

Has Terrorism Replaced Communism in Western Media?

Since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, we have seen a sharp incline in what the mainstream western media seems to portray as “Terrorism” with an Islamic Extremist face, usually “Al-Qaeda” (a religious extremist group made famous by their part in the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Centers complex). This has effectively made the new “Islamic Terrorist Threat” the people of the western world’s number one enemy, allowing the start of many ongoing wars to start between the Western Powers and many smaller Middle Eastern countries. If we look back at the start of the Twentieth Century we will see that before and after the end of the Russian Revolution in 1919 similar steps of media labeling and scare tactics were taken to suppress Communism in the U.S. The start of this media campaign was largely based around a series of political bombings that took place from 1914-1932 by Communist Party members. Once again, the mainstream media changed the face of the “Communist” to be much more than the political ideology was ever intended.

September, 11, 2001. 4 planes were hijacked in Boston, Massachusetts; Newark, New Jersey; and Washington D.C. Two of the planes were sent directly into the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center complex. One was sent into the west side of the Pentagon (The head of The United States Department of Defence). The Third was supposed to be on a course to collide with the State Capital Building in Washington D.C., but the hijackers were overthrown by passengers on the plane and it crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Two weeks later Robert Muller, a new FBI Director appointed one week before the attack, issued a statement linking “Al-Qaeda” to the 19 men responsible for the attack. After this event the Western World erupted with the issue of Islamic Extremism. This led to the majority of mainstream western media companies portraying Islamic Extremists as the face of “Terrorism”, and “Al-Qaeda” as well as any other “Religious Extremists” as the enemy of the western world.

Late April, In 1919, 36 bombs were sent in the mail to the residence of the Attorney General of the United States of America, many judges, prominent businessmen (such as J.D. Rockefeller), and other political figures. In light of this event happening so soon after the Russian Revolution; the American Government, with the help of the FBI, led a crusade against this political ideology by raiding many labor organizations meetings, and arresting or deporting the leaders of various political organizations. This point in American history was known as the First Red scare. The first set of politically targeted bombings was followed by several more attacks in the years to come. These along with the first attacks were believed to be largely carried out by a small group of what most historians claim to be anarcho-Communists, and have come to be commonly known as the “Galleanists”, led by Luigi Galleani. This small group of radicals allowed the American government to attack, brutalize, deport, or arrest anyone found to be a part of similar groups of political ideology. This included pacifist groups such as “The Socialist Party of America” and the “Industrial Workers of the World” (IWW), who were well known at the time for their large movements against America’s involvement in World War One.

The American Governments involvement in the closure and dismissal of these political organizations was quickly followed by a tirade of anti-communism ads, posters, movies, ect. This anti-communist movement snowballed from there and grew tenfold in size until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. Over the course of this time the large main stream media companies of the western powers had successfully changed the image of the communist from a radical political ideology, of which the average person knew very little about; into the largest internal and external threat on the average citizens mind for around nearly 70 years.

In 1995 Bruce Hoffman the Director of the Center for Security Studies published a study in partner with the largest non-profit privately owned Global Policy think tank. The study depicted how the amount of Islamic Extremists had risen from two of the sixty four groups believed to be plotting terrorist attacks on America, to a whopping twenty six out of fifty six in 1995. According to an article written by John More, PBS; “The colonial era, failed post-colonial attempts at state formation, and the creation of Israel engendered a series of Marxist and anti-Western transformations and movements throughout the Arab and Islamic world. The growth of these nationalist and revolutionary movements, along with their view that terrorism could be effective in reaching political goals, generated the first phase of modern international terrorism.” Quotes like this in large media companies, or even public ones like PBS have dramatically increased since the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 and were around long before the September 11th attacks on the U.S.A. This has effectively turned a large part of the population onto the ideal that “Modern World Terrorism” is a new thing, used by the Islamic Extremists to bring down our way of life in the Western worlds. When in reality many countries, such as England, have been dealing with “Modern World Terrorism” for quite a while. Even Canada dealt with internal Terrorist attacks on the government by separatists in one of their largest provinces.

For 70 year Communism effectively played the enemy in American media, allowing for the justification of many wars, unjust arrests, executions, deportations and many other controversial movements. After the collapse of the largest Communist regime, the perceived enemy died. Since then the enemy to replace it is an entire race, and religion, who have been bundled into the description of “Terrorists”; which was already a much misused word in our modern society. It would probably be in the people of the western powers best interest to look into the motivations behind these attacks, and the problem the attackers (whom are obviously desperate enough to rob life from themselves, along with many others) are trying to bring to light. Attacking an enemy with the face of a race or religion usually ends up in the deaths of many more innocents.
