DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT THE DEVTOME PROJECT AND KEEP THE SITE UP/ALIVE PLEASE DONATE (EVEN IF ITS A SATOSHI) TO OUR DEVCOIN 1M4PCuMXvpWX6LHPkBEf3LJ2z1boZv4EQa OR OUR BTC WALLET 16eqEcqfw4zHUh2znvMcmRzGVwCn7CJLxR TO ALLOW US TO AFFORD THE HOSTING.

THE DEVCOIN AND DEVTOME PROJECTS ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO ITS FURTHER SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER 5 OR MORE YEARS!

GW2 Feature Pack (Summer 2014)

Guild Wars 2 is going through a massive update in September’s feature pack. This is designed to help increase the quality of life of players, adding in new systems and revamps to existing ones. There is a lot coming, so check out what you can look forward to with this new update!

Fresh Start – New Player Changes

One of the big things for new players is that existing content is going to be altered to work on a few different things:

  • Making it easier to navigate where new players should be at different points in their game
  • Condensing the story quests so they flow better
  • Adding in new features one step at a time so they are more digestible

All of these things are designed to make the game much easier to learn and get running with, while still allowing players to choose their own method of playing once they get the hang of how things work.

World vs World

One of the biggest changes is that the commander system is being revamped. Instead of all commanders using the same color of tag, now there are four different ones to choose from. This is opening the doors for much more organized combat within the battlegrounds, by allowing different tag colors to be used to represent different groups.

There is a new skill being brought into the WvW skill tree: Siege Golem Mastery. This opens up the doors for multiple different new effects:

  • AoE healing when using Shield Bubble
  • Super speed after destroying a wall or gate
  • Increased stats
  • AoE damage when destroyed

On top of these, a new item is coming that is called the Siege Disabler. Much like its name would suggest, it’s designed for disabling siege weapons. It is thrown like a grenade, has an AoE radius and lasts 45 seconds, rendering all siege weapons unusable for its duration.

New Achievements: Collections

A new category of achievements is coming, called Collections. The goal of these achievements is to find items and skins throughout the world. At first, it will look like there are a limited number of them to find. As you explore the world, however, the list will continue to expand.

The rewards include the achievement points, as well as other items. Things to look forward include new pieces of equipment, recipes and functional unlocks.

Structured PvP Changes

To help compensate for the difference in size between different races (such as Asurans being so small), there is now an option in the game’s settings to normalize enemy characters. This gives all enemies the same color of armor and turns them into humans for the duration of the match. This is only available on team arenas and custom arenas.

Two new sets of armor are being brought to sPvP: Glorious armor and Glorious Hero’s armor. Both of these can be obtained only in sPvP and will not be available in other areas of the game. The Glorious armor will be available to all players, and the Glorious Hero’s armor is available as a reward for certain competitive tournaments. As such, it has prestige that just can’t be earned anywhere else.

Balance Changes

All of the classes are going through some balance changes to help bring all of them to a more fair level. A quick overview of things to look forward to are:

  • Elementalist: some grandmaster traits that don’t have enough benefit or are just too hard to use will be reworked
  • Engineer: boosts to elixirs to increase their functionality, as well as gadgets
  • Guardian: less popular utility skills will be improved, working to help build diversity for both support and defense
  • Mesmer: grandmaster traits will are reworked, as well as things like illusions, traits, weapon skills and utility skills
  • Necromancer: an increase in survivability through utilities and traits, as well as boosting their effectiveness when using melee and skirmishing weapons
  • Ranger: changes to things like pet specificity in some of the Beastmastery traits, opening the doors for choice in which pets to utilize
  • Thief: increases in things like the number of targets dagger auto-attacks can hit and range increases for pistol attacks when using Richochet
  • Warrior: an overhaul to how Warriors use and lose adrenaline

These changes are not all. There are many more coming as well for each of the classes.

Conclusion

The Summer 2014 feature pack is looking like an awesome addition to Guild Wars 2. It is bringing about a lot of balance updates that should help in both sPvP and PvE, as well as helping make all classes more enjoyable and useful in groups. On top of this, the update is coming with revamps for different areas of existing content, including areas like WvW. All of these together are a sign that the game is still evolving and we can look forward to seeing how these fixes affect the game!
