DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT THE DEVTOME PROJECT AND KEEP THE SITE UP/ALIVE PLEASE DONATE (EVEN IF ITS A SATOSHI) TO OUR DEVCOIN 1M4PCuMXvpWX6LHPkBEf3LJ2z1boZv4EQa OR OUR BTC WALLET 16eqEcqfw4zHUh2znvMcmRzGVwCn7CJLxR TO ALLOW US TO AFFORD THE HOSTING.

THE DEVCOIN AND DEVTOME PROJECTS ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO ITS FURTHER SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER 5 OR MORE YEARS!

Gospels Overview Notes

Matthew

  • The author of Matthew goes on and on and on about the genealogy because he wants to show the legitimacy of what he is saying
  • Matthew's purpose is to show that he fulfills the prophecies and one of these is that a virgin gives birth
  • If a man adopts a son, then it is the same thing as if the child is genetically related to him
  • Joseph adopted a son and that means that the adopted person is actually joseph's son
  • Magus is the single of Magi and these people are astrologers
  • It was believed that when someone important was born, the new new star was formed and when that person died, that star would fall or go out
  • When they saw a new star, they went to the old king and asked where the son was and that is not a good thing because there was supposed to be a star
  • The Savor figure is threatened as a child by the person already in power
  • Hera was outwitted by the Magi because they lied and they never told him where the child was
  • There is a motif that relevations come in dreams and that we understanding thins indreams that we cannot understand in real life
  • The synoptic gosples are mark, matthew and luke
  • The synoptic questions is which came first and who drew from whom?
  • Cannotical means accepted and that means that we are talking about the four that are actually part of the text itself
  • Most people believe that Mark came first because it is the oldest and the most Jewish (Jesus is consistently referred to as Rabbi)
  • THe theory then goes that Matthew and lIke then came afterwards
  • Both of those could have come from Mark and that means that there is a similarity
  • There is a theory that there was a Q gospel that both matthew and luke both had as well
  • The other theory is that Marks writes the first one and then he comes back and then he expands it and then he calls it matthew and then like actually wrote the next one
  • Most of them did not write their own gospels because they were ilerate and that makes it very hard to write a book
  • Luke may have written his own though
  • Most of them were written down by other people based off of things that the apostles said
  • Jesus was supposedly born in the city of David (Belthlahem)
  • Characters:
    • John the Baptist - executed by king hera the great
    • The Twelve
    • Simon Peter (his real name was simon) - Cephas
    • Recount a story where this nickname was given to him by Jesus - Peter means rock
    • Was crucified upside down
  • Luke could not have been an apostle because he was not Jewish
  • Koine - a type of Greek in which Luke is written
  • The writer was well educated and his structure was one in which he begins by saying what he was doing and why what he does is better than everyone else
  • Axe? and Luke make up on text
  • Infancy Narrative
    • There is a lot of talk about John
    • John is Elisha
    • Matthew's genealogy - we start with with Abraham. With luke we start with Jesus and then we go the opposite direction.
    • Luke says that Adam is the son of God
    • Luke starts the term “son of God” - he is using language that his audience identifies with
    • People to know that the Messiah has been born - the poor people
    • Luke focuses on the marginalization of society
    • Jesus interacts with the poor people and the tax collectors and the prostitutes
    • Matthew says how this man fulfills all of these prophecies where as Luke showed that here is a deity for the hurt and the woundedjygt
    • A lot of the titles that Luke uses for Jesus were titles for Caesar Augustus as well
    • The census took place in 27 BCE
    • Luke got his information from Mary - this could ehave been why there is a small error in the timeline
    • Christianity is the first attempt at Communism in the world - this works on very small scales
    • All of the gospels are concerned with how Jesus is concerned about the poor but that is Luke's main focus
    • This is the only gospel that talks about circumcision - this is because the audience of this gospel is greek and so it is unfamiliar to them
    • There are only two infancy accounts
    • Mark (Mark was illiterate) is writing for Jewish and John (well, his students) is writing for a Greek Christian audience
