DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT THE DEVTOME PROJECT AND KEEP THE SITE UP/ALIVE PLEASE DONATE (EVEN IF ITS A SATOSHI) TO OUR DEVCOIN 1M4PCuMXvpWX6LHPkBEf3LJ2z1boZv4EQa OR OUR BTC WALLET 16eqEcqfw4zHUh2znvMcmRzGVwCn7CJLxR TO ALLOW US TO AFFORD THE HOSTING.

THE DEVCOIN AND DEVTOME PROJECTS ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO ITS FURTHER SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER 5 OR MORE YEARS!

Gangplank Top guide

/!\ Due to the latest patch this article is now outdated and needs a rework /!\

This is a guide for a character in League of Legends.

Gangplank the Saltwater Scourge.

Nasus can be played either as a top or a jungler. This guide will cover the gameplay top.

PROS/CONS

Pros

  • Insane DPS late game.
  • His main skill shines among the others.
  • Ok sustain in lane.

Cons

  • Played as an one trick pony too often (spam Q only).
  • Kiteable.
  • No hard CC.
  • Old school kit (not everything is tied together).

Summoner spells

  • Teleport: Often a core for a bruiser. It will provide you the ability to come back faster but also to telegank with the help of R.
  • Ghost/exhaust: Flash + ghost is a standard combination but I usually only pick one alongside Teleport.
  • Flash: You don't have any real escape. As you will stay squishy this could be mandatory.

Skills

  • Grog Soaked Blade (Passive): On each auto attack gangplank deals additional magic damages for 3 seconds as follows: (3+1Xlevel per second) and slows the target by 7%. Both effects can stack up to 3 times.

taking only this passive in consideration your optimal attack speed would be 1.0. Parrrley (Q) applies on-hit effects so it will apply your passive.

  • Parrrley (Q): Gangplank shots a pellet at an enemy dealing physical damages as follows: (20/45/70/95/120 +100% AD). If the target is killed with this skill, Gangplanks gains extra gold as follows: (4/5/6/7/8). This amount is doubled on major creeps/minions. Cooldown: (8/7/6/5/4) Cost: 20 mana.

This skill resets the auto attack animation. Use it right after an auto attack to deal more DPS. this skill enable you to deal many damages without making many offensive items. The overall damage is physical. It reduces its cooldown on each rank so it's interesting to up this first as it will allow you to gain more stacks. If you build some CDR it will be even more stacks/damages at the end.

  • Remove Scurvy (W): Gangplank cancels any crowd controls effect affecting him an heals himself as follows: (80/150/220/290/369 +100% AP). Cooldown: 5. Cost: (50/55/60/65/70 mana).

The cancel component is always good but the healing component is not really worth the mana until you are playing an AP Gangplank.

  • Raise Morale (E): Passive: Gangplank permanently enchances his attack damagges and moveement speed as follows: (8/10/12/14/16 AD bonus) and (3/4/5/6/7% MS bonus). Active: Gangplank buffs him and his allies in a AOE around himself enhancing everyone as follows: (12/19/26/33/40 AD Bonus) and (8/11/14/17/20 MS bonus). The passive is disabled within the active's duration.
    Range: 600. Cooldown: 20. Cost: (50/55/60/65/70 mana).

It's a decent steroid and a great AOE buff. The passive and active effects won't stack on Gangplank.

  • Cannon Barrage (R) (Ultimate): Gangplank order the gunners from his ship to fire at targeted location across the map, dealing magic damages as follows: (75/120/165 +20% ap per canonball). Any enemy onto its area is slowed by 25%. 25 canonballs are fired randomly for 6 seconds.
Range: Global. Cooldown: (120/115/110) Cost: 100 mana.

The slow is enjoyable as the AOE can take a full team within its radius but the damage component is still pretty random even if it was reworked. It's one of the few global ultis still in the game so it has its uses.

Skill sequence

01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18
Q x x x x x
W x x x x x
E x x x x x
R x x x

I take 2 level of everything early as your sustain isn't really good early. Then I max E because it's is more useful in early/mid game. Then I max Q and I finish with W.

Masteries

Gangplank is almost like a melee carry so the masterie page is very similar to an adc.

On the offensive tree you can drop Frenzy if you don't plan to build on critical strike. Butcher and feast are tweakable but ehre it helps with the farm and the sustain.

The defensive tree is the standard Juggernaut + Unyelding. Enchanted Armort is tweakable with Recovery.

Runes

  • X9 armor penetration (marks): It is tweakable with flat AD but it's less balanced as your opponent will almost always stack some armor.
  • x9 Flat armor (seals): Pretty standard top as you will face many AD. You will be countered by teemo AP more often than other top thus.
  • X9 MR per level (glyphs): it will shine on teamfights later on.
  • X3 Flat AD (Quintessences): It adds more early efficiency on you auto attacks and Parrrley.

Build

Star the game with either a Cloth Armor (300) + 5Hp pots (35) or a Doran's Shield +2 pots or a Gauntlet +2 pots. On you first trip back you can start building Sheen or complete the Avarice Blade from the Gauntlet. Then you have to finish Trinity Force (3728). The core will be Boots 2 + Trinity Force + Ravenous Hydra (3300). The after core is Randuin's Omen (3000) for a bit of tankyness. Ravenous hydra will work with Parrrley as long distance cleave. The next item will be Last Whisper (2500) as it will scale with your core items

Gameplay top

Your goal is obviously to last hit as much as you can with Q. Your early will not be good, at least if you force 1v1. If someone is too agressive simply Auto attack him applying your passive then run away. Save Q for the farm in general. Start using it once you have your second rank in it otherwise you will empty your mana pool too fast. Dont rely too much on W as well your mana pool management is critical from start. Your overall goal will be to sty close from the enemy's farm. To do so you will have to freeze the lane close to your tower toa void ganks but outside its range to avoid wasting creeps. After level 6 it will be easier. First make an anoncement to your mates about your ulti being up. They will not call you often for it. Start looking at the minimap more. Here teleport can be nice in combination with R to either maximise your damage from your ninja gank or to save your tower from from the creeps plus the top laner you left there. In late game you will have to poke with Q and to go in at the good timing. You will need a really solid frontline to deal a decent DPS output.
