Galaxies Online is a modified version of Xnova Redesigned, modified from an instance of their Beta 14.

A number of modifications have been made, using in some cases files from other versions entirely, in attempts to find working combat code.

The source code actually in use is located on GitHub at with the exception that the online instance currently has its signup page replaced by a signup blocking page that attempts to inform visitors that obtaining the wherewithal to start up an intergalactic mining operation is not cheap and that they should therefore first establish one or more CrossCiv characters and amass enough riches or influence with such characters to be able to consider investing in the intergalactic mining industry.

In other words, registration is closed. There is no point giving away vastly expensive resources suitable for starting a new intergalactic mining corporation to random passers-by, especially when you take into account their total lack of any “stake” thus their propensity for quitting. The huge loans the existing such corporations undertook in order to finance their initial setup *will* be paid back, but the number of them that ended up having to be re-possessed by Galactic Repo Corporations was such that Galactic Mining Corp and Galactic Retirement Funds have been forced to re-consider their generous loan terms and lax applicant pre-requisites; it is possible that no such loans will be made in the future, instead requiring those interested in establishing such corporations to put up the full cost of the required expedition and equipment.

Because these galaxies are inner core galaxies, relatively close to the home worlds of the civilisations of the Galactic Milieu, it is not anticipated that more such colonies will be sent out. Rather, the plan is to build huge jumpgates through which to send colony ships to farther galaxies; the next opportunities for starting up new intergalactic mining colonies are thus not expected to occur until this intial wave of colonies has managed to build such jump-gates.

Relative location

The galaxies served by the Galaxies Online server are relatively close to the central worlds of the Galactic Milieu; this is used as a rationalisation of the lack of combat capabilities, inasmuch as the central worlds naturally prefer not to have swarms of armed and dangerous robotic starships active in nearby galaxies.


Sending robotic mining colony starships from the central worlds to colonise these galaxies was cost 500 GMC and 500 GRF per ship that actually arrived successfully at a useable world. The ships were distinct separate colonisation systems, each one operating as a distinct corp, not dependent on any of the others. Only those designated Admin, GMC and GRF were paid for by that time; all others began accruing interest upon arrival.

A total of 46 ships arrived, however only 32 seemed to actively begin developing their world, and of those most eventually chose to default, leading to a shortage of the reposession corporations that had been set up as insurance against defaulters. So far 18 repo corps have been deployed, leaving 20 defaulting corps (colonies) still awaiting reposession. However even with only 23 out of 46 colonies active the project has been deemed a success, and Admincorp expects reposession operations to continue until all 20 idle colonies are brought into production.

Because the journey to these galaxies was one way, and will remain so until the colonies begin building jump gates, there has been only a trivial amount of trade. Active colonies are so productive that they have found re-investment of their resources to expand their colonies and build subsidiary colonies preferable to applying resources (delivered to GMC and/or GRF colonies) against their startup loans. Also the question of how much such resources are worth out there arises; GMC and GRF can offer any amount of their eponymous currencies for such resources so how much would be “fair”?

It is however of course always possible to trade shares, especially if a corp “goes public”; and too there exists the lure of yet farther galaxies which jump gates built in this group of galaxies are expected to eventually bring within reach. (See Universes Online.)

It has now been more than 365 compounding cycles since their colony ship landed for some corps; a corp that paid nothing against its startup loans for 365 cycles would owe 18890 GMC and 18890 GRF, a huge profit for its creditors and sufficiently onerous even in the face of the huge amounts of resources a well-developed colony 365 compounding cycles old can mine that it seems unlikely the creditors will continue to stand by chortling at the rate of return without at least starting to make some initial noises about its beginning to seem like time to seriously consider starting to at least cover ongoing interest charges instead of letting interest continue to accrue.

When this project was initially proposed, and throughout its initial planning, development and implementation stages, most observers stood back and waited to see what would happen. Who, they wondered, would buy resources located in galaxies far far away? One answer, of course, is the Galactic United Nations.

The evident success of the project increased investor confidence enormously, resulting in an ever growing number of refinancing deals whereby the various colonisation corps borrow at lower interest rates from investors to pay off their high interest original startup loans.

Now that another 365 or so compounding periods have passed, interest rates are somewhat lower and a lot of the debt is no denominated in DeVCoins. More repossession corps were created to take up the slack, so all colonies are up and running and are growing nicely. The total debtload is still huge, but it looks manageable, especially when one takes into account not only the production capacities of the colonies but also the sheer amount of capital equipment they represent, as by now each colony has itself sent out several colonies and those colonies each have large scale mining and deuterium-gathering plants in operation.

A typical colony now boasts a fleet of two hundred large cargo ships, able to deliver almost five million units of deuterium to buyers such as General Mining Corp and General Retirement Funds, both of who maintain several depots for receiving such shipments. As that page shows, colonies can bring in significant income selling deuterium, however for the majority of colonies their initial slacking-off that led to their takeover by reposession corps has hurt them badly, leaving them massive debt which will take a long time to pay off. In essence they remain long term strategic assets more than any kind of get rich quick scheme. This is not really all due to the interest rates on their debts, either; the currencies in which the debts were initially denominated have multiplied in vlue massively too; if the currencies had remained at the values they had when the initial debts were incurred the colonies would be massively farther ahead than they currently are.
