DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT THE DEVTOME PROJECT AND KEEP THE SITE UP/ALIVE PLEASE DONATE (EVEN IF ITS A SATOSHI) TO OUR DEVCOIN 1M4PCuMXvpWX6LHPkBEf3LJ2z1boZv4EQa OR OUR BTC WALLET 16eqEcqfw4zHUh2znvMcmRzGVwCn7CJLxR TO ALLOW US TO AFFORD THE HOSTING.

THE DEVCOIN AND DEVTOME PROJECTS ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO ITS FURTHER SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER 5 OR MORE YEARS!

Fightstick

A fightstick or arcade stick is a controller specially made for fighting games. It is similar to the controls in an original arcade machine.

Why use a fightstick?

Many people prefer a fightstick for fighting games, claiming they have better control over their character and are able to perform advanced techniques with ease. A lot of the top players use a fightstick. I use one myself as well, and have to say it works extremely well with fighting games. The stick itself allows for good movement, and the big buttons make sure you don't accidentally press the wrong button, which can be fatal in fighting games. This makes sense, since fightsticks are made especially for fighting games, whereas regular controllers are made for games played on consoles.

It is also identical to the controls in an arcade machine, so if you play a lot in the arcades (which is getting harder from time to time, since there are getting less and less arcade halls), a fightstick would be the logical choice.

Another plus is that they are very customizable. If you are a bit tech savvy, you can create your own masterpiece!

The only real downside to a fightstick is that it takes a while to get used to it. At the beginning it will be hard to perform moves, and you might get frustated and switch back to the controller. Definitely do not do this! It takes multiple games, but once you get used to it, it works better than ever!

So the main reasons people play on a fightstick are:

  1. It is made for fighting games, and works extremely well with fighting games.
  2. It is the closest thing you get to emulating the arcade halls.

What fightstick should I get?

There are many different kinds of fightsticks. The most famous producer is Mad Catz, and even they made a whole bunch of different types. There often isn't too much of a difference, besides size and the parts used for it. The size of your fightstick is a personal preference, and everybody should decide on his own what size he wants. The parts however, are very important in a fightstick.

The Parts

When I refer to the 'parts', I'm talking about the stick and the buttons. Some fightstick use factory produced parts, which are kind of crappy. They aren't really responsive and break easily. That's why you should get a stick with built-in quality parts, or build them in yourself. The two main producers of quality parts are: Sanwa and Seimitsu.

Here is a list of fightsticks with built-in quality parts:

  • Mad Catz Arcade FightStick™ Tournament Edition - PS3 or Xbox 360. Both versions will work on PC.
  • Mad Catz Arcade FightStick™ Tournament Edition 2 - Xbox One . PC compatibility unknown.
  • Eightarc Qanba Q4 - PS3, Xbox 360 AND PC.
  • Eightarc Fusion - PS3, Xbox 360 AND PC.

Bat Top vs Ball Top

The last issue we will be going over is the bat top vs ball top discussion. You can see the difference in the pictures. The ball top is far more popular, and used by top players such as Daigo and Xian. The bat top is getting more attention since Infiltration is beasting with one. It all comes down to personal preference, and I recommend to try them both. They only cost a couple of bucks anyway.
