DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT THE DEVTOME PROJECT AND KEEP THE SITE UP/ALIVE PLEASE DONATE (EVEN IF ITS A SATOSHI) TO OUR DEVCOIN 1M4PCuMXvpWX6LHPkBEf3LJ2z1boZv4EQa OR OUR BTC WALLET 16eqEcqfw4zHUh2znvMcmRzGVwCn7CJLxR TO ALLOW US TO AFFORD THE HOSTING.

THE DEVCOIN AND DEVTOME PROJECTS ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO ITS FURTHER SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER 5 OR MORE YEARS!

Elder Scrolls Online – Dismounting Annoyances

The Elder Scrolls Online is a new MMORPG that has just been released. As a result, we can expect that it will come with some bugs here and there. Usually, though, they are smaller bugs; not something that should have easily been found within the quality assurance process. The one I want to take a look at here is the dismounting bug when running around on mounts, as it has a massive impact on the quality of the game, as well as other areas of it.

The Problem: Random Dismounting

When riding on a mount, it likes to dismount all of the time. You can take a short trip from one area to another and be dismounted numerous times, having to keep mounting back up after each one. Sometimes you will luck out and this will not happen often, if at all, but that is pretty rare and far between. In most cases, you can expect to be dismounted multiple times per minute. While this might not have a massive impact on some areas of the game, it is a definite disadvantage when it comes to the quality of life while playing. You do not want to keep having to mount up again and again when you are simply trying to travel from one place to another. This is a huge hassle, and should be one of the first bugs to get cleared up. But, really, it should never have made it to the launch of the game either!

Effects in PvP

As if the PvE effects are not bad enough, in PvP it gets even worse. Whether you are running after (or away from) enemies or towards a castle or keep, getting the maximum speed you can is important. Sadly, being dismounted all of the time only hinders that, and I can not count how many times it has caused me to lose a battle. It is hard to chase after people if you keep having to mount, and it is hard to escape others if they are not dismounted and you are. All of this leads to a very bad quality of life experience within Elder Scrolls Online.

Slowing it Down

Something I have found that may be part of the culprit is that if you do not constantly use shift while running on the mount (which is the key for stamina usage, to run faster), it does not appear to dismount as often. There have been a lot of cases where right after pressing the shift key I have been dismounted, and sometimes if I do not use that at all I will be just fine.

Another trick that I have found is to try not to jump off of structures. Bridges, rocks, ledges, etc. all lead to drops. I have found that you will often get dismounted when suffering a fall, so avoiding them at all costs seems to help. There are times where you can not avoid them, but if you can, it is a good idea just to be on the safe side.

It could simply be coincidence that I have run in to both of these things, but I wanted to bring them up in case it helps anyone who reads this. I think that anything that helps in the way of cutting down on the number of dismounts is a welcome piece of advice; it is so annoying to keep dealing with it that there are a lot of periods where I will simply run on food instead of jumping on my horse.

A Possible End - April 2nd Patch

An update was released to Elder Scrolls Online on April the 2nd that supposedly fixed this issue. So far, it appears to be going pretty well. According to the patch notes, the problem was caused by jumping over certain obstacles, which makes a bit of sense considering that when you are running, you often “hop” over things instead of walking on top of them. It is hard to tell at this point whether or not the bug is completely gone, but I am at least hopeful that it will be!
