DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT THE DEVTOME PROJECT AND KEEP THE SITE UP/ALIVE PLEASE DONATE (EVEN IF ITS A SATOSHI) TO OUR DEVCOIN 1M4PCuMXvpWX6LHPkBEf3LJ2z1boZv4EQa OR OUR BTC WALLET 16eqEcqfw4zHUh2znvMcmRzGVwCn7CJLxR TO ALLOW US TO AFFORD THE HOSTING.

THE DEVCOIN AND DEVTOME PROJECTS ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO ITS FURTHER SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER 5 OR MORE YEARS!

DNA – The Crime Puzzle

The Story

Helen Smith, who was a nanny in an orphanage, was upset. She knew that this place was intended to be a temporary one for the small beings who had just begun their short life with bad luck. But she also knew that this home had hardly ever turned out to be temporary. Therefore, she was never happy to realize that she would have to lose either child, perhaps forever. The awareness that the child would do better in a real house could not help.

A real house?

Helen Smith disliked the mysterious woman at first sight. The woman appeared a few weeks ago. She told Helen the story about losing her memory in an accident. Step by step, the stranger had investigated that she had had a little baby, that she had been pregnant again, and if her children were still alive they would probably be living in an orphanage somewhere around. She wanted to find them. That was her story.

The woman had also taken legal steps to do what she intended to do. The DNA test’s results were expected today.

It was 6 o’clock in the morning. Helen Smith looked at the sleeping children. They all looked as innocent as they indeed were. Audrey came here four years ago on Children’s Day. Jamie appeared in the same year two days before Halloween. They were alike somehow, strong and healthy, which Helen could not say about Martin who was found haggard a week before Jamie arrived. These three were Helen’s favourites, perhaps because she had known them since they were newly born babies, less than one month old.

When Patrick was found, he was already crawling on all fours. Mary came here exatcly one year and two days after Audrey did and was a teething baby at this time. Joan, Tony, Annie, Luke, Mike, Sarah…

Everybody else would merge names and dates into one. Helen Smith loved every child individually. Each was a unique gift from God.

The postman appeared before the noon. What Helen Smith was afraid of turned out to be true. The official DNA tests confirmed that the strange woman had been the biological mother of Jamie and Audrey. Helen Smith took the phone and entered nine digits. Andrew Jones, the private detective and a very good friend of Helen’s, answered immediately.

“Andrew, you have to help me”, whispered Helen.

“Is there anything wrong?”

“I’m afraid there is”, she replied. “Somebody had manipulated the DNA tests to take two children. If you could, please, take care of this…”

The Question

What makes Helen Smith think that the tests had been manipulated?

The False Solution

What the strange woman said could not be true because if she really knew she had been pregnant the foetus would have to be at least several weeks old so the other baby could not have been a new born one. Even in that case the carried child would certainly not survive the birth right immediately the accident.

The Overthrow

The woman did not say that she had known she had been pregnant at the moment of the accident. She knows now that she had been pregnant at the moment of the accident. It is also never discovered how long had she been pregnant after the accident and what was happening to her during that time (maybe she had been kept in coma?).

It is also possible that the woman made the whole story up but is Audrey’s and Jamie’s mother notwithstanding. Helen Smith does not claim that the woman fabricated the story. Helen Smith claims that the woman fabricated the test results.

The Correct Solution

Jamie came to the orphanage five months after Audrey did and both Jamie and Audrey had been up to one month old at the moment of arriving. Therefore, Audrey is older than Jamie by no less than four months and no more than six months. Human pregnancy lasts nine months. There is no possible way that people with such an age difference have the same biological mother.
