DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT THE DEVTOME PROJECT AND KEEP THE SITE UP/ALIVE PLEASE DONATE (EVEN IF ITS A SATOSHI) TO OUR DEVCOIN 1M4PCuMXvpWX6LHPkBEf3LJ2z1boZv4EQa OR OUR BTC WALLET 16eqEcqfw4zHUh2znvMcmRzGVwCn7CJLxR TO ALLOW US TO AFFORD THE HOSTING.

THE DEVCOIN AND DEVTOME PROJECTS ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO ITS FURTHER SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER 5 OR MORE YEARS!

Bio-Lite HomeStove

Like its little brother the CampStove, the Bio-Lite HomeStove is a cooking device which is meant to be fueled with all manner of Biomass_Energy. It is designed to burn wood, wood pellets, leaves, pine cones and other scraps as well as dung. Unlike the CampStove, the HomeStove is designed with rural electrification in developing areas in mind. For this reason, instead of a single USB outlet the HomeStove has several USB whip connectors with adapters for micro-USB and a range of proprietary cellular phone charging connections as well as the integrated USB outlet for charging other electronic devices.

The general description of the HomeStove's operation is identical to that of the CampStove. The chief differences are:

  • Fuel is fed in through a side-mounted fuel chute at the bottom, rather than directly into the top of the stove
  • The heat and power output are higher than the CampStove
  • The HomeStove is larger, sturdier, and intended for day-to-day cooking rather than for periodic use while hiking or camping
  • The HomeStove is not available for purchase. It is currently being tested in Ghana, Uganda, and India 1).

The sales of the CampStove in the developed world are helping to subsidize efforts to bring the HomeStove to commercial success in the developing world. Bio-Lite themselves describes the HomeStove as solving two of the biggest problems facing people in developing regions today - the need for cleaner more efficient cooking techniques and the need for inexpensive, accessible energy. This equipment offers the chance of solving both of these problems, and substantially increasing the health of local people in these areas. The HomeStove claims to reduce smoke by 95% 2) and to cut wood fuel consumption by half. Based on this author's experience with the CampStove, these claims are very much in line with the performance offered by the technology.
