DEVTOME.COM HOSTING COSTS HAVE BEGUN TO EXCEED 115$ MONTHLY. THE ADMINISTRATION IS NO LONGER ABLE TO HANDLE THE COST WITHOUT ASSISTANCE DUE TO THE RISING COST. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR ALMOST A YEAR, BUT WE HAVE BEEN HANDLING IT FROM OUR OWN POCKETS. HOWEVER, WITH LITERALLY NO DONATIONS FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS IT HAS DEPLETED THE BUDGET IN SHORT ORDER WITH THE INCREASE IN ACTIVITY ON THE SITE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. OUR CPU USAGE HAS BECOME TOO HIGH TO REMAIN ON A REASONABLE COSTING PLAN THAT WE COULD MAINTAIN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT THE DEVTOME PROJECT AND KEEP THE SITE UP/ALIVE PLEASE DONATE (EVEN IF ITS A SATOSHI) TO OUR DEVCOIN 1M4PCuMXvpWX6LHPkBEf3LJ2z1boZv4EQa OR OUR BTC WALLET 16eqEcqfw4zHUh2znvMcmRzGVwCn7CJLxR TO ALLOW US TO AFFORD THE HOSTING.

THE DEVCOIN AND DEVTOME PROJECTS ARE BOTH VERY IMPORTANT TO THE COMMUNITY. PLEASE CONTRIBUTE TO ITS FURTHER SUCCESS FOR ANOTHER 5 OR MORE YEARS!

ArcheAge Review

ArcheAge is a MMORPG that is considered as “sandbox” game, in that it’s not developers that design the in-game world, but rather the players. Players are able to plant their own trees, plants, grow their own animals (including mounts), build ships and docks, houses and more. Essentially the creativity within the world is limited just by the players and what they can come up with. With that, ArcheAge has so much more to offer, it’s an endless game of learning.

Courts and Trial System

Players are able to kill their allies and steal from farms that are “illegal” (placed in areas where they shouldn’t be). These actions bring with them consequences in the form of Infamy and Crime Points. The Crime Points, when 50 have been amassed, will put players in the “Wanted” status. At this point, if they die in PvP they will be sent to trial. Once on trial, five players will be selected to serve as the jury, where they will determine whether the player is guilty or innocent, and also vote on what their sentence (in jail) should be. Jurors are able to see all of the crimes the player committed, as well as player reports to help aid in their decision.

The entire trial system works together to help punish wrongdoers, while allowing the player’s peers to determine whether or not they want to actually prosecute them for what happened. For example, maybe the player had slain someone that was stealing from their neighbor. Or maybe they stole from someone that stole from them first. Each time a player gets sent to trial, different jurors are chosen to handle their case and it is all done publicly such that everyone can see the results (including the time in prison, if any). img3.mmo.mmo4arab.com_news_2014_07_22_image2.jpg

Combat and Class System

When it comes to ArcheAge’s class system, it is a lot like RIFT in terms of how things work. Essentially there are different subclasses within the game, and three of these are chosen in order to make up a build. Unlike RIFT, however, the main classes are designed solely for a couple of skills that, for all intents and purposes, are not going to make or break the game. As a result, if a player is to level a single character to 50 (the current maximum level on the Alpha servers), there is no reason to create alternate characters unless they simply want to.

Classes can be altered at any time, for a cost. This opens the doors for changing pretty much on the fly, without having to drop everything to do so. It also allows for much more efficient experimenting with different builds while out hunting. All of this also helps contribute to players running different builds, so that in most cases people are not all running around as clones of one another.

Land Ownership and Building

A huge part of what makes ArcheAge special is that players design the world. There are buildings, vehicles, ships, docks and more that players are able to create and add to the world. And as part of the land ownership comes taxes. Players are able to place their plots illegally (and avoid taxes), at the cost of not being secure (in that others can steal their things). Those that are legal have to deal with their taxes on a weekly basis in order to stay legal. This brings with it a new dynamic to games: rather than just creating a world, it makes you follow real-world-like protocol when it comes to the laws; or at least as close to it as a game can get.

Sailing the High Seas

A part of the game a lot of players enjoy is being able to set sail. Different ships can be made, all the way as small as a row boat and as large as a massive transport ship. These can then be taken around through the ocean, fighting amongst other ships, transporting goods, or simply exploring the seas. It is also fabled that there is a Kraken out in the water that enjoys eating up ships, sort of like the Lochness Monster.

The benefit of ships is that it allows the two factions to, while they are enemies, connect to one another. This lets people smuggle goods over (in the form of “trades”), should players be willing to take the risk to do so. After all, trying to wade your way through enemy waters isn’t always the easiest thing to do!

Conclusion

There are tons of things to do in ArcheAge, and there is always more to learn and experience within the game. All the way from the crafting, to leveling and even the crime system, things are dynamic in nature and every day ends up being a new experience. The community plays the biggest role in what happens within the game and how things work, and it is going to be an interesting experiment seeing how everything pans out over time. One thing is for certain: the game is going to show how open a MMORPG can be and what the effects are of allowing nearly everything to be customized by the players!
